Little Dix Meals
We are heading to Little Dix Bay in July for 4 nites on our honeymoon. Any suggestions on whether or not we should get a meal plan or are there other restaurants easy to get to and worth visiting? We will be heading on the St. John and have read of all the nice restaurants on the island worth trying and we like to try different places. I'm just not sure if that is the way to go on Virgin Gorda. Any help is much appreciated. Thanks.

My experience with Little Dix and Rosewood in general is that the meal play are only a slight deal if you plan on consuming a lot of food. Otherwise you will be able to save some $$ and keep your flexibitly by just doing as you wish. Besides even if you are on a meal plan, you still have to sign a ticket for everything you get.

The food at Little Dix is very good however. Have fun!

Tim;

Only coffee, tea and soft drinks are included.(juice in the morning too).
All alcohol is additional. To me, one of the basic reasons to be on a plan is so that you do not have to sign, review,
consider and or even see a guest check when you complete you meal. Rosewood requires you to sign a ticket for everything you get. If I'm going to do that, personally I'd just a well order what I want and (maybe less) possibly save some $$. I truly feel you can easily "beat the system" by only ordering what you think you can eat. On the other hand if you intend to eat a lot, (5 course dinners each time) then you'd probably be best with a plan.

Yes there are a few other not to distant choices to dine at as well.
And if you desire to even have 1 dinner somewhere esle then a meal plan does not make sense. Yes their food is very good and maybe the best on the island but still.......you might want a change of scenery one time. Good luck!

Breakfast and the Monday night buffet at Little Dix are great! The other meals(at L.D.) are mediocre at best, however the restruants on V.G. such as Flying Iguana, Chez Bamboo and Old Yard Inn are delish! Whatever you decide it is a wonderful place--enjoy yourself.

I prefer the system at Frenchman's Cay which, I believe, is fairly typical in its format but generous in terms of savings.
Based on Frenchman's, you should absolutely expect that for a meal included in your plan:
1) it's your decision on which meal it will be;
2) likewise, you decide what the dish will be and the whole menu is open to you, not just a few cheap main courses;
3) you get so many breakfasts, so many lunches, and so many dinners.
4) At the end of your stay, if you wish to leave an extra amount for your server, then you give whatever you wish to give to her personally. (that was the management's recommendation and it works very well since she appreciates it, it's personal, you know she got it, and you are not focusing on complying with some preset percentage).

We always stayed for about 7-10 days, and generally left about $40 extra for our server.

Remember that if you are driving or taxiing to other spots to add the cost to your meal ticket. The meal plan may or may not "work" for you but ususally comes fairly close to the same if you were on the economy. It does not include alcohol beverages and with the transiets who do visit and dine there, there is no way that a server would know if you were on the plan or not. Of course, they could ask you to wear those tacky bracelets! Therefore they ask you to sign for your meals and any additional drinks or wine that you may order. And, no, they do not limit the choices from the menu and, yes, even if you want two desserts, if you smile nicely, betcha you get 'em!!

We stayed at Little Dix Bay on our honeymoon a couple of years ago and stayed on the meal plan. We met a couple who were not and they were shocked at how much a la carte the food was. We don't gorge ourselves but on your honeymoon you want to eat well without regard of price. Yes you pay for alcohol, but at $110 per adult we easily feel we got a deal. When a Lobster medallion dish was $39 on its own... add an appetizer and a desert...you are already close to $60. Add in breakfast buffet with juices, coffee, etc, lunch and soft drinks... easily worth it. And the food was excellent. I travel every two weeks on business and eat at many great restaurants and LDB has a great kitchen! Also gratuity is included in the meal plan. Another plus.
