Long Island, Bahamas villa rental
Hello, this is probably a shot in the dark, but by chance has anyone ever stayed at the villa on Long Island called Slipstream? (www.escapetoslipstream.com)
We’re staying there next February and were wondering if anyone had any feedback on it. It looks like a great place online.
Thanks!

We've not stayed there but did look at purchasing it a number of years ago (we also looked at purchasing the adjacent parcel of land).
The design of the house reminded us of 3 quonset huts arranged in a Tee. It looked nicely maintained but we were unimpressed with the overall property. It's on a nice stretch of golden sand beach, however, there is a lot of rock, limestone and coral starting at the water's edge and going out a great distance - you'll need watershoes whenever you go into the water. The water is also very shallow (only knee deep for hundreds of feet off shore.) This is not a great swimming beach.
We "passed" on the purchase and decided it just wasn't for us.

Hi RoamsAround,
Thanks for your feedback! We'll be sure to bring our water shoes! That's definitely good to know as you can't really tell from the pictures. Hopefully there's a spot somewhere along that long beach that isn't rocky. I'm sure our toddler will want to go in the water. Fortunately the villa comes with a 17' Whaler so I'm hoping we can take it up to Cape Santa Maria for most of our beach swimming days-that or drive to it. Are there any other beaches nearby there that you would recommend checking out or things near the villa worth seeing (restaurants, etc)? Thanks!

Long Island is sparsely populated. There's really "not much" on the island but a few small villages and a few local restaurants.
Cape Santa Maria and Stella Maris are the two major resorts on the island (if I recall correctly they are about 20 to 30 minute drive from SlipStream). The beach at CSM stretches for several miles is is the softest white sand you can imagine (like talcum powder in places). You'll find miles of other beaches all around the island (FYI - the surf on the Atlantic side can be very active).
As far as the beach "in front" of Slipstream I recall the water being virtually unaccessible without beach shoes and that goes for the area several hundred feet north & south of the house. I recall commenting to my spouse that some of the photographs of the "beach" that appear on their website were taken not in front of their property but actuall further down the beach.
I can tell you that since we didn't really like the sytle of the house we concentrated our efforts on the property immediately to the south (some 400 feet of beachfront) and we decided against the purchase because the wasn't any area that did not have rocks or coral at the water's edge.
Sorry if this may not be what you want to hear but our experience showed reality was not what was depicted on their website as there was a lot of "puffery".

Hi Roamsaround,
Thanks so much for your feedback! We thought long and hard about it, but slipstream really fits our budget and layout for our travel group, so we’re sticking with that. The main thing that sold us was the van and boat included in the week rental. So we figure we’ll do a lot of boating trips along the coast and do our swimming days up at CSM. We might even tack on a couple days at CSM to the end of our trip to get the best of both worlds (CSM is what drew us to LI in the first place, but ended up being too expensive for a week). Thanks again for your input-we’ll be sure to bring our water shoes to get out to the boat. Did you end up buying on LI? Where did you stay while there?
