Looking for Good Restaurants in St. John

Any recommendations? We will also probaly be one day in St. Thomas, so any recommendations would be great for there too.
We love seafood, sushi and anything fresh from the islands.
Thanks--leaving in a few days

Some restaurants will be closed right now during the "off" season, but here are suggestions for:
Cruz Bay:
less expensive, Woody's*,
Polly's Mexican;
moderate, Morgan's Mango, Tapa, Fish Trap, ChillyBilly's*;
more expensive, Stone Terrace, Asolare*, Chateau Bordeaux;
Coral Bay:
less expensive, Vie's Snack Shack* (lunch only), Sticky Fingers BBQ, Island Blues, Skinny Legs;
moderate to slightly more expensive, Sweet Plaintains, Shipwreck Landing, Miss Lucy's*
(*)personal favorites

Our favorite restaurant on St John was the one at Gallows Point. I can't remember its name though! We ate at all the places Tuxedocat mentions (in Cruz Bay). The food was good, but nothing truly memorable. (Nothing compared to the food on St Barts or Anguilla for instance)

The restaurant at Gallows Point is called Zo Zo's. Reservations recommended. I have not yet been to STJ, so take my advice for what it is worth. I have been jotting down notes for months and crossing some off the list at times. In addition to what tuxedocat recommended, I have read that the Lime Inn is very good for lobster, Joes BBQ not to be missed for the more casual fare. There is also a place that I heard about called Ron's Pizza that delivers if you are near Cruz bay. If anyone has different info, please let me know. I can always modify my list. Thanks

Well, Poss, I am not a huge fan of Cruz Bay... I tend to enjoy eating a quick meal at Woody's and spending the rest of the evening at a little stand just beyond Tapa's. Miss Lucy's is always a memorable experience for location alone. Same with Asolare. I can't remember the exact nature of the duck breast, but I remember that sunset and ooohhh the moonlight and the cocktails!!!

Most of the best of have been mentioned. We also enjoyed Rhum Lines in Cruz Bay for good Tapas & dinners.

Tuxedocat-- You are always so very helpful on these posts, and I virtually always agree with what you say. Just wanted to urge you to try Zo Zo's if you haven't yet. It's not really "in" Cruz Bay. The setting/view is as lovely as at Asolar imo. Food better, we think.

(I'm still hoping to find a great villa to rent next year. We're going to Virgin Gorda this year, but I know we'll be eager to get back to St John, where I'm convinced the snorkeling can't be beat. Will, as always, do 4 days at Caneel, but hope to do a villa instead of our usual Gallows Point 5 days. But I want to be very close to great snorkeling! Don't want to spend a bunch of time hauling all over the island. G.P. has nice snorkeling-- not the greatest-- very nice views, very nice place to sit and read-- but no beach. wonder if I'll be able to combine the best of both "worlds," in a villa. We don't know the Cruz Bay area very well. The once or twice we drove out there, we thought the snorkeling wasn't as good as in the Caneel/Hawksnest area.

Poss: I think you meant "Coral Bay" area. And it's one those, "if it's on the right day" kind of thing. Snorkeling out in the the southern or eastern end of St. John definitely wonderful. There are places that I will not reveal anywhere! Of course, I strongly believe that people will discover some great places on their own. One of the places I recommend is Vie's (if she's open). In any case, even one day in St. John is one day in heaven for me. ZoZo's is good, as is so many Cruz Bay Restaurants. Hard not to have a good time.
