Need quiet escape...St. Thomas or St. John?

I've never been to the US Virgin Islands. Would you please describe the difference between St. Thomas & St. John. I plan on renting a villa for a peaceful getaway. We enjoy quiet, smooth beaches, nice dining. No need for hectic nightlife. Thanks for helping.

St. John is the answer if you don't mind spending the extra money. A cheaper alternative is to stay on St. Thomas and take the quick, inexpensive ferry over to St. John. The majority of S.J. is a protected national park- the people are nicer, the restaurants are better and the beaches are quieter. Neither have a night life to speak of. If you opt for S.T., I would highly suggest checking out the northern beaches. Sounds like they would be what you are looking for. Hope this was helpful...have a wonderful trip! Both islands are absolutely gorgeous.

Definitely St. John! St. Thomas is a lot more populated (K-mart, Mcdonalds, etc.) When the ships are in it is very very crowded.

St. John is very laid back and not very crowded at all. It is 3/4 national park so there are some very secluded places you can hike too if that is what you are looking for.

I agree with the two previous posts! We'd been to St. John 2 times for a day each... once on a cruise, once while staying on St. Thomas for a week. St. Thomas is a beautiful island, but it is nowhere near PRISTINE, which is exactly what St. John is! There is really no comparison!!!

This March, we've finally going to PARADISE (St. John) for a week!

St. John is no comparison to St. Thomas. St. Thomas is loud and dirty. People everywhere. St. John is where you want to be. .we took our whole family last summer and had a wonderful time. Very laid back. Went to the beach early every morning to snorkle and hang out. Spent the afternoons exploring the island to find new beaches for the next days adventures. Hiked up Rams Head for the most beautiful view you have ever seen and ate the best burgers ever at Skinny Legs in Coral Bay. No one to tell us what to do or when to do it--ah! ah! ah! wish I was there right now. This is truly the right choice for you. WE rented a villa through VIVA for a very reasonable price!! Hope this helps. Much better beaches here. Far fewer peole!!
