I haven't stayed at the resort but I know people who have and who like it. I see adults and families there.
It is on a very nice beach. The beach is on the Atlantic side. it is nice to swim there although sometimes, depending on
the weather, there can be high surf.
There are restaurants on the property including Beau's Beau's. beau Beau is our local calypso personality and seeing his show is a lot of fun. Right next door also is Mr. Busby's and Ms. B's..both great beach bar/restaurants.
Mr. Busby's at night turns into Daniel's by the Sea, a fantastic Italian restaurant.

There are restaurants near by also
one of my favorites is
Tabba Khady.

There is also Captain Oliver's, and a great bar called Dinghy Dock there.
These places are close by but not within walking distance so I would recommend renting a car. Other than the few places I mentioned there is not much else around. With a car,you can travel to other beaches and restaurants..
and oh yes, on the far other end of the beach is the new 5 star Westin Hotel with a casino, restaurants, etc.

I stayed at the resort last March. It is a drive from town but I think you'll be pleased. The units them selves are not luxurious but nice & clean - pretty basic. Try and get an upgrade facing the ocean of you can - they only have so many units. We were facing Oyster Pond/Marina so it wasn't that bad. They have a very good restaurant on site (in fact, it was the best meal we had on the island - even considerting the restaurants in Grand Case!) They have a nice bar area open to the pool area and ocean - it was fun - at night time it was always full of people and and was nice to enjoy dirnks and having the ocean breeze coming right in through the big archways leading out to the pool/ocean front. The pool area is to die for with amazing ocean view. Dawn beach is very nice and we never had a problem getting beach chairs. There is also a fun & funky beach bar on Dawn's beach which as you know is just right next to Oyster Bay resort, called Busby's Beach Bear - good food and atmoshphere and you can walk right up there from the sandy beach. There is also another restaurant close by called Captain's Olliver but it's on other side of the marina - about a 5 minute drive. We also took a day trip to St. Barts and it leaves from that marina. You can see the island of St. Barts directly from Dawn Beach. There is a little "convenience store" close by as well (across from Busby's Beach Bar) theat sells wine, beer, milk, break, soup, cheese, etc.,etc. - you can get fresh pastries and croissants first thing in the morning as well.
Enjoy - the resort will be just fine - part of the fun is driving around the island exploring anyway.
