Sylvester,

It will be interesting to see what reponses you get to this post. Having been to St. Barth once and Harbour Island yearly for the last 15 years, my pick would be Harbour Island.

St. Barth is very beautiful, and in order to get around you need to have a car, on Harbour Island the island is so small you can walk everywhere.

Both have amazing beaches, ok well Harbour Island only has 1 beach, 3 miles of pink sand, and even during high season, the beach is usually pretty deserted, except near some of the larger resorts.

To be honest, I thought St. Barth was over priced and I thought the food good but expensive.

So Harbour Island, is smaller but my vote, and I can recommend several places to look at for your stay.

Try the www.briland.com site for info on the island and resorts. Also you might look up www.where2stay for info on both islands.

Have a great trip wherever you decide to go and if you need more info on Harbour Island, please let me know.

tweedy

We were just in St. Barts in Feb. and Harbour Island 3 yrs. ago. These are two very different Islands. St. Barts is very European, not Caribbean, densely populated, sophisticated and expensive. Harbour Isl. is very small, quiet, low key and less sophisticated than St. Barts with limited things to do and places to eat. Most snazzy place to stay is Pink Beach. On St. Barts there are many, luxury resorts. It all depends what you want.

Wow- this is like comparing apples and chocolate mousse, LOL. You need to get a travel book or start looking at the islands' websites.
Do you like 5-star upscale resorts? Barth's. Do you like sleepy little islands with not much to do but relax? H Island. Harbour Island is one of the prettiest little places I've been. I think 3 days there would be enough, then head to another out island for diversity.

Harbour Island is not the sleepy little island it was a few years ago, and it has been discovered big time.

You will see celebs there now staying at Pink Sands and Dunsmore Beach Club and there are now SEVERAL good restaurants, several shops, art galleries, 2 dive shops, several nite spots and the most beautiful beach.

There is good snorkling and dive sites around the island and several guides to take you.

What I like is that you don't have to have a car (or golf cart) to get around the island, it is so small you can walk everywhere, but you might want to rent one for a few days to get to see the whole island.

For more info on Harbour Island come visit the www.briland.com site for pictures and info on things to do and see.

Hope this helps a bit. Have a wonderful vacation.

This is actually a question for the knowledgeable and always helpful Tweedy !

I have been intrigued with Pink Sands for some time. I visit their website more than I probably should .

I am in my mid-fifties and would love to find a place where I would feel comfotable as a single woman.

A beautiful beach, elegant accommodations, and the ability to dine on property are about my only requirements.

Although I certainly realize most guests will be couples, I would really like to find a place of beauty and tranquility for my single soul .

Any suggestions will be much appreciated !

Marion

Marion,

I would recommend a couple of places on the island, Runaway Hill would be perfect for you. I have done that several times, gone to Harbour Island by myself, to just relax and recharge the batteries. The website is www.runawayhill.com

Depending on what your budget might be, there is also a lovely B&B on island on Dunsmore St called Bahama House and down the street right on the bay is The Landing also a B&B.

The phone number for Runaway Hill is (242)333-2150 and ask for Carol or Dellareese and please give them my warmest thoughts.

Have a wonderful time on island you will love it.

tweedy
