I've lived on St. Croix for 40 years, and agree with all the advice you've received about being aware and using common sense. Be pleasant, greet people with "Good Morning", Good Afternoon" etc. when you enter a place... and you'll be fine.
Our favorite restaurants for dinner are: Salud!, Columbus Cove Restaurant at Salt River Marina, and Cafe Ste. Tropez in Frederiksted. Each provides a great dining experience and have wonderful desserts, too! Columbus Cove also has the best Sunday Brunch on the island, and Ste. Tropez offers a yummy lunch!
If you want a cozier Buck Island sailing experience, try Llewellen (340-773-9027) who leaves from the St. Croix Yacht Club. A former Calypso King, he will also serenade you while on board.
We have a beautiful, still undiscovered, island! Enjoy your stay!
