Suggestions for a reasonable hotel on Grand Cayman??

Has anyone ever stayed at Sleep Inn or the Treasure Island Hotel? These two hotels are pretty reasonably priced and are located near seven mile beach. Any other suggestions?

I am going to stay at Treasure Island for the second time next week. Have also stayed in Grand Cayman in a condo. I think Treasure Island is a real bargain. Since I am going alone this time, I felt I would be happier there since they have a restaurant on site, a pastry shop and some shops and most condos do not. Our room last time was very nice, every room has a refrigerator and a safe. The people who run the place and work there are very nice, friendly and accommodating. The beach is not a particularly great beach as it is coral, but the snorkeling is good once you are past the coral. And they do have a sandy beach to lay on. All in all I think you will not find a better place for the price on the island. It is also within walking distance to shopping and a great spa.

And if you want a different beach, just stroll on down. All beachfront in Grand Cayman is public to the high waterline if I'm not mistaken. You can't use the pools or chairs at other hotels or condos, but the beach & water is for everyone.

I have stayed at the sleep in. They have a great breakfast that is included with the price of the room. It is held outside near the pool. Very good! The rooms are very plain. Nothing to write home about BUT you'll never be in it so why pay for it? If you like budget prices with a better grade room, try the Holiday Inn down the road. They have just rebuit this hotel. The old Holiday Inn was removed to make room for the New Ritz Carlson. My family and I own a timeshare on Grand Cayman and go every other year! I love it. So will you! Just my opinion, but don't get caught up on seven mile beach your whole trip...the island has a lot to offer on the East end and up near Rum Point! Good luck.

I stayed at the Sleep Inn last August and had a great time even though the hotel is not situated on the beach. I've never been to Treasure Island Hotel. Rent a car and drive to any of the public beaches or walk five minutes to the beach (you can't use the chairs- it belongs to another hotel). Like what Travelingfool said, Sleep Inn offers free breakfast (do not feed the birds, they'll keep pesting you for more!!!). Take the ferry to Rum Point (you can catch it at the Hyatt) OR drive (not sure how far it is). Make sure you buy snacks and drinks at the market (food is pricey on the island. Oh, and request for a refrigerator at Sleep Inn. It's well worth having one.
Have a great time!!!!!!

I stayed at Comfort Suites in November. It's about 50 yards from the beach and continental breakfast is included. The rooms have kitchen facilities (fridge, microwave, toaster, coffee maker). The main part of 7 Mile beach is just on the other side of the Marriott.

My husband and I are avid divers and go to Grand Cayman almost every year. Last time we went, we stayed at a new place, Sunshine Suites Hotel. The price was definitely right and it was a great location just across the street from the Westin (not on the beach, but really close - and the beach there is totally clear of rocks, coral and seagrass). The rooms are all new and have kitchens, which was great for us since we are early risers and enjoy coffee and light breakfast first thing. It also has dive lockers and rinse tanks, which is really nice. I have stayed at Sleep Inn, Treasure Island, numerous different condos, Sunset House - however, I don't think we will stay anywhere else anymore. Sunshine Suites was close to everything, the staff was incredibly nice and responsive, the price was reasonable - it is a great deal for Cayman.

We stayed at the Treasure Island and really enjoyed it there even though it is not a luxury hotel. The snorkeling from the beach was very good with a small reef right off shore. The open air lobby with a steel band playing in the evenings was lovely. It has a nice low key caribbean feel to it, and even though the accomodations were very basic, they met our needs perfectly (along with the price!). If you have any more questions, feel free to email me.

Just got back from Grand Cayman yesterday. We stayed at the Sunshine Suites. Although it's not on the beach, it's located right across the street from the Westin. You have access to that beach & it's one of the nicest on 7 mile beach.
Sunshine Suites was very convenient to everything. We could walk to the market, which was great since each room has a kitchen. Also, eating out is quite expensive, so having a kitchen was very nice to cut costs.
If you dive, Sunshine Suites is right next to Fisheye Diving.
The Holiday Inn mentioned
above is a brand new hotel,
not a renovation - I stayed
there the beginning of May.
It is about a mle north of
the Westin and directly
across the street from the
nicest part of Seven Mile
Beach. The hotel's beach bar
and restaurant are located
right on the beach. Having
only been open since November
2000, the room rates are
quite reasonable. The food
was very good - definitely
not what you'd expect at a
Holiday Inn. The hotel
itself is not what you'd
think of as a Holiday Inn -
very nice, super clean, great
staff.

The Treasure Island is kind
of tired but is closer to the
Georgetown action.
