Young Couple First Vacation Together
My Boyfriend and I are 26 and 23 respectivly, and want to plan a beach trip from June 11- June 17th. I am going to be graduating from Texas Tech with an Interior Design degree in May and he is a Border Patrol Agent in Eagle Pass, Texas. We have been long distance for the past two years i have been in school and can't wait to celebrate me graduating this summer. The only problem is we know we want to go somewhere...we just dont know where to go???? Any suggestions for a nice low priced romantic vacation with great night life??? We love to go out and eat then stay out really late and spend all day relaxing on the beach till dinner time rolls around again. we were thinking somewhere like Jamaica, the Bahamas, anywhere fun in Mexico...something along those lines. We want to spend less than $1,000 dollars each on hotel and airfare.

Playa Del Carmen, Mexico might be a great choice for you. You fly into Cancun, then it is about 45 minutes South. Very fun town with lots of reasonably priced restaurants and nightlife and unique, inexpensive hotels on the beach.

I can't tell you much about the nightlife but I do think Playa is a good suggestion for you- especially since you are in Texas and can probably get a good deal on a flight to Cancun. Take a look at Shangri-la Caribe where the room rate includes breakfast, dinner and taxes. Drinks in most places I have been in Mexico are pretty cheap or reasonable- lots of 2 for 1 specials. I don't think Playa is going to seem as Americanized to you as Cancun would. Take a day trip to Tulum to the ruins and maybe snorkel some of the cenotes. My daughter is your age and I think she would like Playa- we have been, she has not. Tulum or Akumal would give you some of what you are looking for but I wouldn't think you would find a lot of nightlife- others can tell you. I will tell you that the Bahamas are very expensive- we have been quite a few times to the out islands. The only nightlife to speak of would be in Nassau or Paradise Island and I'm not sure you could swing it on your budget- the food and drink is very pricey even if you found a good deal on a place to stay. We have never been to Jamaica. Hope you find something great- congratulations on your upcoming graduation!

For that price range, the least expensive destination is Cozumel, MX. We live in Texas also. We spent 4 nights at The El Cozumeleno in December for $1,353.00 total air, hotel and AI plan for 2 people. That was low season. However, I bet you'll find good rates in June.
The food at the El Coz is not spectualr, but decent. Order off the meun on the table and avoid the buffet. The drinks are good and free following. They hide the Don Julio, but ask for it and the are more than happy to pour. It's a $7 cab ride to the plaza in San Migual. Tons of resturants, bars, shopping and entertainment. We found Corona for $1 and many 2 for 1 speicals. Check out Sr. Frogs and Carlos & Charlies for night life. Book a bar hopping tour to the "wild side" of the Island. Go to one of the many Beach Clubs. They have an AI entry fee and the cool water toys like the trampolines, ice burg and slides. Also, go to Chankanaab Aprk for some great beach time and snorkling. There bar/restaurant has beach chair service and the food is good and inexpensive.

Playa del Carmen.....It is a great town. You can easily stay at an inexpensive hotel or even rent a condo on VRBO. Everything is within walking distance. If you want all inclusive, there are some less expensive options very close to playa. Fun town and cheap!

for the price you want i'd suggest you look at tntvacations.com a/or gwvvacations.com they bundle air/ai/transfers
i would forget about jamaica as your boyfriend is border patrol and i assume it would be uncomfortable/difficult for him to be approached by drug dealers constantly. i mean they go away if you say no but it would happen often.
you should look at isla mujeras. i think you'd like it. quick ferry ride from cancun. good snorkel, reasonable, lots of fun places to play at night and you get around on golf carts. NOT americanized.

I'm giong to 2nd Eileen's opinion...
Playa del Carmen!
My fiance and I (22 and 25) went in May last year.
We had similar interests...going out at night, and beach/relax all day.
I have tons of pictures I could send you...shoot me an e-mail if interested:
[email protected]
We stayed at La Tortuga which was GREAT!!!!! Great prices too for May!!! We did it very cheaply as well, in your budget.
Food everywhere was great, night-life and walking 5th Ave. was great, everything was just perfect!
Not to mention the food/drinks are cheap! Haha. We actually got engaged there last year, it was awesome.
Let me know if you would like any more advice on places to stay, things to do or see, or places to go and visit!
By the way, I've been to Negril and Ocho Rios in Jamaica, and Grand Cayman, and Playa del Carmen was better for my fiance and I. More budget friendly, easier to navigate by ourselves as well.
