Crusing the Danube

For those that have cruised the Danube from Amsterdam to Bucharest or any part thereof...

1. What cruise Company did you use and what did you think of the River Boat ?

2. From the Brochures that I am looking at , only Scenic Tours has balconies on their River Boats.
Has anyone cruised with Scenic Tours. ?

3. What about Uniworld or AMA Waterways.?

What was your experience with any of these Companies ?

We took Uniworld last year and loved it. In fact we are doing another Uniworld cruise (The Rhine) this year. Our cabins were wonderful and we had a window that opened but no balcony. Doubt we would have used a balcony as we were busy most of the time. We did sit on the top deck a couple times and enjoyed that.

As I noted on a thread below, we did our first river cruise last September on AMA between Prague and Budapest. It wasn't the same as an Ocean cruise, but we enjoyed it. As I also mentioned in that post, our TA has a River cruise section on her Web site that discusses four river cruise companies: see http://www.brownandkeenetravel.com/ and click on River Cruises. She selected AMA as the company that would best meet her clients expectations. Subsequently, she escorted two river cruises, including ours, and plans to escort more AMA cruises in the future.

Percy: have you ever done a river cruise B4? BTW it looks like the Canucks are far better this yr. though the games have been close. However the best team seems to win the close ones.

Thanks for the website Dreps. I will review what they have.

I have a friend who is thinking of going to Romania, so we shall see.

Hi jacketwatch:

No I have never done a River Cruise.

I am wondering why Chicago Blackhawks don't seem to have that zip they had in winning the Cup last year.

I never thought Vancouver would have won both home games against the Hawks!

I think they ( Hawks) will win easily tonight

I wish I had the same confidence Percy. It seems like the Canucks have no intention of losing this yr. to the Hawks like the last two yrs. Whats happened to them? Well though they have the core they lost about 6-7 guys for salary cap reasons. We'll see. I hope you enjoy that river cruise amigo.

It seems Uniworld has a bit more "luxury" than AMA ,etc, in my browsing. I am interested in a tour to see villages more so than cities ... does anyone know or have a suggestion for that? I prefer scenery & culture to walking tours in the cities.

well I guess on any Danube cruise there will be some city walking tours.

At other stops there seems to be small towns .

Hi jacketwatch........well right now it is 6-1 for the Hawks..see I was right !!!

I will go on the Danube cruise only if my Romanian friend decides on going.... I would go to keep him company, so it is mainly up to him.

Take care everyone

I posted a trip report on our river cruise from Vienna to Bucharest with Avalon's Imagery boat. There are several comments to my posting and you might find it interesting to read for informaiton on what to expect.

On our Danube cruise on Uniworld we toured some cities (Vienna, Salzburg, Budapest and also some small villages - 2 I can think of are Melk and Durnstein. There were tour options and some people went on one tour and others could go on other tours. We also had free time in most of the locations so you could tour things you wanted to see. We loved the whole trip and thought Uniworld was fabulous.
