Is Star Clippers good for first time cruisers?
My husband and I (we are in our mid twenties) are planning to go on our first cruise in June. We are considering the Star Clipper's Grenadine Islands. I have a few questions: 1) What are the ports-of-call like? (we want to snorkel and dive but not ONLY snorkel and dive) 2) Is the food good? I've read mixed reviews about the variety and quality. 3) Will we be bored on the ship at night? I realize there isn't gambling, clubs, shows like on the big ships but is there ANYTHING--besides crab racing- to do? Thank you for any help you can give us!!!

Hi there<BR>I got back last week from the Royal Clipper's Grenadines cruise and loved it. We got to go on the Star Clipper too for a visit. Our food was excellent and the Star would be the same. Snorkelling and diving available every day from the boat or via the zodiac. The ports of call are a dream, Carriaco, Grenada, Tobago Cays (the best day of all), St Vincent/Bequia, St Lucia and Martinique. There is not much to do at night except eat and drink (we didn't mind as we got up at 06:30 and went to bed early). There is some disco dancing on deck and a steel band comes on board once a week. <BR>If this is your first cruise I must tell you it is not like being on a cruise ship, ie you can feel the ship bouncing along sometimes!<BR>Hope this helps you.<BR>Janet<BR>Janet

Hi there Stacey<BR>The only ports you will actually see are Grenada and Martinique. St Georges in Grenada is a lovely old town with lots of bars, small shops and old buildings. Martinique is a modern French town. The ship will moor off the islands and you go in by the tender. It is up to you to decide what you want to see, best thing is to take a taxi to where-ever you want to go. Island tours for a couple of hours by taxi are the best option, the ship's excursions are expensive. Most of the Grenadines islands are very small and some are uninhabited so it really was a beach-type holiday.

Janet,<BR><BR>Ok, I see. What about St. Lucia? I've read about jungle tours to waterfalls there. Didn't you port there? Was there not an opportunity to see the island?<BR><BR>My husband is a very picky eater (meat and potato kind-of guy). What sort of things did they serve?<BR><BR>We have tenative reservations on the Star Clipper for June 23. I just want to make sure it's everything we want.<BR><BR>Thank you!

Stacy<BR>In St Lucia the ship anchored off Reduit Beach in the morning and moved to Souffriere in the afternoon. As we had been to St Lucia before we stayed on board. Yes there are trips round the island which people enjoyed, if we hadn't been to St Lucia we would have gone to the beach in the morning. In the afternoon you can take the ship's Zodiac for a free trip down the coast, my husband did and enjoyed it.<BR>There is good choice of food at every meal, anything you could want for breakfast, hot meaty and fish dishes and salads for lunch and a choice of a meat (steak) or fish for dinner.<BR>Guess what, we have just booked to go on the Royal in Sept to the med!<BR>Janet

You've already booked another cruise with them? Wow! You must have REALLY enjoyed it!!!<BR><BR>Would you recommend that we try to book a tour prior to getting there, booking through the ship (which I understand is more expensive), or book once we port? I purchaced the "Frommer's" guide book on Carribean Cruises and Ports-Of-Call and they give alot of tour company suggestions.
