recs. 4 transport from Rome FCO to Civitavecchia and hotles there too
I am looking from transport advice from FCO to Civitavecchia. We will arrive on the 14th. Oct. and embark the 15th so its best I think to go right from FCO to the port. Hopefully post cruise we'll have some time to see Rome itself so whats the best way to get to Civi. and does anyone know a nice place to stay there? Thanks! Larry

Larry we used http://www.romecabs.com/ for a tour in Rome from Civitavecchia. They also do transfers from the airport. I highly recommend them and perhaps you could do a quick little tour of Rome on the way to the port. You can also check them out on Tripadvisor but we were extremely pleased with them. Also our friends stayed at Hotel Miramare and loved it. Price was good too. http://www.hotelmiramarecivitavecchia.it/eng/

I heard it was around 115 euro for a taxi but on one of
the airline forums people found it to be more of a hassle. There is nothing like having someone waiting with a nice car after a long flight! I think rome cabs is around 130euro - not sure.

It embarks from and ends in Rome. The ports include;
Santorini
Mykonos
Istanbul for two days
Rhodes
Kusadasi
Athens
Naples
We actually stayed 3 days in IST last yr. precruise but you can always do more. We may do a river cruise on the Bosphorous and/or just meet some people we know there. I luv IST, great city really.
We also stopped in Kusadais last yr. but here is more we can do and actually we basically missed Atherns last yr. due to me being ill with that darn noro-virus so hopefully we can see what we missed.
Our 1st cruise ever included a stop in naples but all we saw was Pompei so this time perhaps we can see the Amalfi coast and/or go to Capri.
In any case we are away on vacation.

Larry sounds great. You will really enjoy Athens as well. Just hope they are behaving themselves there. When it gets closer to cruise time I will put my thinking cap on and make some recommendations. We actually disembarked in Athens and spent three days there. Loved it.

Sounds good. We had a stop there last fall and of course the political situation dictated whether or not we actaully disembarked. We were lucky enough to get off as there were no strikes that day but our planned tour of Athens was derailed by the nv bug which I was recovering from. We did get off just to say we were there but really saw very little. I would appreciate any hints.

That is not what we do. There is nothing at or around the port in Civit.... It would be boring. We take the Leonard Express into Rome (Termini), stay in a hotel (Sonya) within a couple blocks of Termini, have nice evening meal in the area (a number nice restaurants to choice from), have a leisurely breakfast in the morning and catch the train to Civit.. late morning - 3 an hour so no point in rushing. From the train station it is a 10 min walk to the port entrance, and a shuttle to the ship check in lounge. Could not be easier or more relaxed. Total cost, about the price of the taxi.
