WoinParis,
This poor poster had been given poor travel advice and had booked a combination air-rail ticket with a convoluted travel itinerary, which required, as I recall, two trips to Amsterdam or Brussels or something like that, in order for her return tickets to be valid. Her whole trip was like that and it could not be fixed. She went places and simply turned around without seeing anything. Plus, I think it was recent, so winter. I hope her trip was not as horrible as it looked it might be.

I remembered the OP's struggles, but not the details, so looked up the original question. Anyway, no, she certainly did not get advice on that itinerary from anyone here! It was, without doubt, the most hellish itinerary I have ever seen!
The trip started in Mumbai, and the airline agent sold her (cheap?) tickets that in theory landed and departed from Brussels, but actually the first leg of the trip was by air to Paris, and directly on by train to Brussels. The return leg began in Brussels by train to Amsterdam, and directly on by air to Mumbai. The problem was if she did not use the train tickets, her return air ticket would have been cancelled, but she wanted to see Paris and Amsterdam. She should have been offered multi-city, into Paris, out of Amsterdam, would have saved 2 days of travel and, in the end, money.
She arrived in Brussels and at some point returned to Paris. She went to Amsterdam, but had to return to Brussels to use that leg of the train trip to connect with her trip by air. She was not allowed a layover day in Amsterdam between the train and flight, so had to make it a separate trip from Brussels.
A detailed trip report would be interesting.
