1 Extra Day: Visit Pisa or Extend Venice?
I've planned 4 nites in Florence and 3 in Venice. The first day in each city is realy travel time(mid morning train arrivals). I now have 1 extra day to play with. I can't decide whether to stay in Florence another night and take a day trip to Pisa or extend my stay in Venice?
I welcome all suggestions and opinons.
Thanks !

I would vote for Venice as well. If you want a day trip from Venice and you are an art lover, I would suggest the short train ride to Padova to see the Scrovegni Chapel, which is easy and wonderful. Here is their website:

If you are driving, Pisa is not that far from Florence - You could visit Pisa on a 1/2 day trip. If I can recall, it is also a short train ride back & forth, so if you have time in Florence, you could probably do it by train in a 1/2 day trip.
If it's a must see, do it from Florence with the time you have there and spend the extra day in Venice.

I've not been to Pisa so I can't really be objective, but you should know Pisa often comes up on threads for "most overrated" or on a "not necessary" list (vs must see). Venice is just amazing and 2 days will barely scratch the surface. I would even go so far as to say unless you're really into Renaissance art or are planning a day trip out of Florence, you may want to rethink your Florence/Venice time allotment. Most people wish they'd spent more time in Venice.

Are you planning to see some of the Tuscan countryside while in Florence? Not everyone feels this way, but I can easily get overwhelmed from all the goings-on in the city. If you want to rent a car for a day, touring a sleepy hilltown and/or exploring a winery may be a good mental break. Italy has so much more to offer beyond "The Big Three."

Another Venice vote. However, we were in Venice last month and I really wanted to see the leaning tower. My wife really wanted to shop in Florence. So we did a day trip from Venezia to Firenze to Pisa, then back to Firenze for shopping and returned to Venice that evening.
Other posters are right. Pisa is not that great unless one desires to see the tower as I did.

Another Venice vote! It's an amazing magical place. The Pisa stop (according to friends, haven't done it myself) let's you see the postcard view or take a photo there, but isn't particularly engaging beyond that.
