A month in Provence - near St. Remy

Hi folks - I am going to spend a month in Provence starting in late August. I am alone and want to relax, catch up on reading, cook, and stroll in the village and hillside. I will visit some historical places and cute villages, but I am not focused on sightseeing on this particular trip (certainly not going to the beach). I found St. Remy to be a good compromise between a beautiful village but not one that is so popular that it is just filled with tourists (I haven't been to St. Remy but have been to a few other villages in Provence). I have a choice for a really nice house in St. Didier, (picture with the pool) in a good location in the village, and a very rustic and charming small mas near St. Remy. The latter has a great advantage because I am close to St. Remy, my desired base, but it is small and not in the village itself. I read that St. Didier is considered a "bland" village, and my limited google street views kind of confirmed that. .

I want to get some overall advice on which villages are best to stay in, based on your experience, for the kind of things I want to do (like walk to a bakery in the morning!). I hope I have given you enough context (I have attached pictures of the houses, and, yes they are far too big for one person but I may have many sisters and my niece visit me for a week, and I do like large houses) but let me know if you need to know more.

Thanks in advance,

St Remy is quite touristy.

St Didier is a great location. It is close (5K) to Pernes, which we adore. Venasque is also one of our favorite villages - and is 4K away. That's a lovely region. We've spent 10 weeks in Bedoin, which is close by, and 7 weeks in the Luberon - also close. Our favorite farmer's market is the one on Friday in Carpentras - close too!!

If you would like my 35 page itinerary for the Cote d'Azur & Provence, e-mail me at my Fodors name at AOL, and I'll attach the itinerary to the reply e-mail. I've sent it to over 3,000 people on Fodors.

We'll be in Goult and also Cadenet for 4 weeks this coming June.
