airport noise in Nice? Should we make hotel base somewhere else?

For folks who've been reading my other posts, you're no doubt getting weary of my questions about "quiet." Thanks for your patience.
It's just that we happen to be poor sleepers anyway, and even worse when we travel. (We're in our 70's and the insomnia seems to have goten worse with age.) We've learned that we do SO much better the more quiet it is. We'll be embarking for a cruise in Monte Carlo and we thought to spend 3-4 days beforehand exploring the coast and hills a bit. (Haven't been to the area in more than 40 years!) I assumed Nice should be the base.
But now I've been reading a lot about the virtually constant noise from the very busy airport, I'm afraid it'd drive us bananas.
In short, can someone tell me whether it'd make more sense to make our base elsewhere? Also I'd MUCH appreciate suggestions for wonderfully quiet hotels. But ones that'd be convenient also. Hoping to not spend more than about $300 per night. Thanks so much!!

I've been to Nice a number of times and have never noticed airport noise not even when we stayed close by.

We've stay in Nice in the neighborhood of 30 nights. We have also stayed near St Paul/Vence for 33 nights. We have never noticed airplane noise. Sometimes, there is a bit of street noise, however. We stay at the Windsor in Nice. If you tay there, ask for a room facing the garden to minimize the street noise.

We liked the Hotel le Grimaldi in Nice very much. I posted a detailed trip report about our visit there last May. We noticed absolutely no airplane noise. I took a cab to the airport from the hotel, and it was about a 15 minute drive.

Do you mean is there airport noise in all of Nice, no matter where you stay? Of course not, although I'm sure there would be if you were staying right next to it, just as in any city.

I stayed inland a bit more than the Grimaldi or Windsor and never noticed anything and I am very sensitive to noise when I sleep, also. I was about halfway between the airport and the train station, I suppose. This is farther away from the main square and the beach, but it was a nice quiet area and not really that far. I took the bus to the neighborhood a little, rather than walking all the way (it goes right up a main street nearby, ave Jean Medecin).

I stayed in the 3* Hotel Vendome on rue Pastorelli, which I liked well enough, although I'm sure there are many comparable hotels around and I'm not saying it was an outstanding value, but it might be a reasonable location for you.

oh, sorry, I realized you were willing to spend up to $300 a night, so I don't think the Vendome would suit your criteria as it's not that deluxe. It's just a nice 3* hotel with AC and a good location and nice staff. However, this site shows it on a map so you can get an idea about where it is:
