Application and requirements for applying visa in Spain
Hi all,
I just want to ask that, do you know what are the basic requirements to get visa in Spain. We all thought that the visa rules and requirements are same in almost every country but I want to told you that, it is not so. Every country having different criteria and rules.
So, please share your views on the visa- rules of Spain.
Thanks in advance.

Visa rules for any country depend on your citizenship.
If you are american you can enter Spain as a tourist - without any visa - for up to 90 days. If you want to stay longer than that you need to apply for another type of visa - which is true of all the Schengen countries.
If you provide more information - nationality and how long/under what circumstances you want to stay - people can give you an overview of your options. But the only place to get specific information you're sure is correct is to contact the local Spanish embassy or consulate.

Yet again a poster is asking a travel forum about visas. Would the powers that be on Fodors consider putting a sticky on the forums telling or explaining that information is given by amateurs not professionals in visa regulations and should be taken as friendly helpful advice BUT the only souyrce of correct information is the official site of country concerned, ie the Home Office or UK Border Agency for the UK and the State Department for the US.

Without knowing your personal situation it is impossible for anyone (especially strangers on a chat board) to provide you with useful information. The only place to get this is at the Spanish Embassy where you reside.

It's practically certain you'll get no useful help at all from going to your local Spanish embassy or consulate.
Most countries these days don't waste money on paying staff to sit in a foreign city telling foreigners how to get through immigration. Almost without exception, diplomatic posts will refer you to a premium rate phone line where you'll pay a small fortune for an outsourced company (probably in Bangalore) to tell you what you can find out for yourself on the web.
You need to go to the website of the Spanish embassy in the country where you live. The organisation of diplomatic websites varies, but if you can't see a "visas" or similar link, click on the tab saying "Consulate".
If you're uncomfortable reading the native language of the country where you live, go to the Spanish Embassy website of the country you hold citizenship of.
