Having perused ALL the other current threads about Vienna vs. Prague etc. etc. I conclude as follows:
The consensus is that you do not need 5 days in Prague, though you could spend that and more.
The consensus is that no-one dislikes Prague though some are cool on Vienna.
The consensus is that the cities in both countries make the holiday; however, Austria does have spectacular scenery and is easily negotiated by public transit.
Both are great and between the two, it will be a matter of personal taste.
Flip a coin. You will not be disappointed with either country.
If that is too random: Check out the other threads for particulars of what is on offer. Or specify your own interests more clearly on this thread.......

It may also be worth taking budget into consideration - your money will go much further in the Czech Republic, especially outside Prague. I've been to both countries and both have beautiful places to see. I loved Vienna, Innsbruck and Salzburg but the Czech Republic has my heart.

If you have never been to Prague, you should go there. It is wonderful and more unique than Vienna. If you have 4 nights and 5 days, I assume you will have the 3 full days and two partial days. That isn't really too long for Prague. If it seems so, a day trip to Cesky Krumlov or Kutna Hora would take care of it.

I think there is more to like in Austria than in the Czech Republic, but conversely, more to like in the city of Prague than in the city of Vienna.
any chance you speak German? That might influence your decision.
It's almost like saying which has more to offer? Georgia or North Carolina? What are you looking for? The answer is that both have way more than you can comfortable fit in 4 nights and 5 days.
Best wishes,
Rex

I absolutely agree that if you haven't been to Prague, GO. It's one of the most beautiful and charming European cities I have seen. I returned from Prague and Vienna this week and cannot wait to go back. It would be hard to choose between the two because they are entirely different experiences, but Prague is without a doubt worth seeing. It's extremely cold there now, but as long as you're prepared you'll be fine. It's awesome!
