B&B in Western Ireland
Please recommend your favorite B&B in Western Ireland (we haven't decided exactly where we will be traveling...so any suggestions are helpful). Please note what sight seeing attractions are close to that location, price range and B&B atmosphere. My only stipulation is that there is a private bath...

The Shores in Castlegregory on the Dingle Peninsula. Easily the best I have stayed in. The rooms are very comfortable, beautifully decorated and Annette's cooking is the best. Have dinner there one night. The view out of most of the rooms is of the longest beah in Ireland. I now go to Dingle just to stay at The Shores. Voted B&B of the year by Michele Erdwig and alos best food.

Kerry has wonderful scenery, but Killarney can be very busy.

Again, I've not stayed there, but it's highly regarded. This is handy for the Ring of Kerry and the Ring of Beara, and not far from Killarney and Killarney National Park.

Sheesh! I could name a several hundred B&Bs. It might only take me a couple of months to write it all down and critique them.
Narrow your focus. Decide where you actually want to stay as far as towns and cities are concerned. You sound like you are in the starting phase of planning your trip. More research is required on YOUR part so that we can then jump in and help you.
I suggest starting with a couple of guide books and more online research.
Agree with The Shores. It is a great B&B.

HMIreland: I didn't mean to come across sounding grumpy. Just that you need to focus rather than try the shotgun approach. If you merely want to read reviews of all B&Bs in the west you can do so at www.tripadvisor.com You can likewise do a search on this forum and come up with plenty of good recommendations. Call Tourism Ireland or look at Ebay for B&B books that may help.

IrishEyes: Thanks for your advice. You are most certainly correct...I am at the beginning stages of planning this trip. I have bought books and researched on the Internet. At this point, I have become a little overwhelmed; as this is my first time traveling to Ireland. I agree that my question is very broad, but I was just merely trying to see where people enjoyed staying…hoping this would bring me to a little more clarity in my trip planning. I was hoping to receive more responses like what I got from wojazz3 – Bill recommended a great B&B as well as something to do in that area. I will think a little more on the trip and perhaps repost at a later date with more direction. Thanks again for your help.

I hadn't connected this with your other post where you said you wouldn't have a car. All of the B&Bs that I've stayed at generally require a car. Though it is quite possible to see Ireland without a car, very few would disagree that it is MUCH easier to see the country with a car, especially on a short trip. You would want to stay in towns that have ample transportation options like Killarney, Galway, perhaps Ennis.
If you are able to rethink the car option, you could greatly enhance your options for places to stay.

We don't rent a car when we visit Ireland - we are in the minority there. But Galway has many B&B's on College Rd. and Father Griffin where you can get along nicely without a car. I even stayed at a GuestHouse in Ross'a Veal that I reached by bus from Galway. Our last trip we stayed at Rose Cottage in Ennis: less than 500m from St. Peter & Paul Cathedral and a few steps more to the center of town. From Ennis you can visit the Cliffs of Moher, Doolin, the Burren. Ross'a Veal is where Galway's Aran Island ferrys depart from. Thet also leave from Doolin in nearby County Clare.

Bill: Your typo problem is endearing. My husband has two left thumbs too! I had just been reading the thread about people's problems at Carrabaun House in Westport and noticed that they had the name wrong too on their website. It must be an epidemic. Or maybe caused by too much snow.
HMIreland: With no car you might be better off choosing a couple of prime locations like Galway and Killarney and doing day tours from there. There are plenty available from both locations.
