Bergen-Oslo...Drive or Train
Considering my options for the above route in mid-September with my 85 year old mother. Would like to overnight in Flam or Aurland.
What are the advantages and disadvantages between driving or taking the train between Bergen (our embarkation to Scandanavia) to Oslo.

The train ride is quite scenic and relaxing. Why not overnight at the Stalheim? www.stalheim.com

The Bergen-Oslo train line is ubiquitously listed as amongst the very most awesomely scenic in Europe...and i'm not sure the road route takes such a breath-taking route (it may) but Norwegian trains are top notch and at Myrdal you can take the sideline also breaktaking train down to Flam and the fjord, which to me would make a super overnight...right on this fantastic fjord.

The drive is quite scenic too, but be under no illusion - if you choose to do it by car it will take you a long time.
North of Oslo, heading toward the fjord region, motorways/dual carriageway are virtually non-existant. When we drove from Oslo to Aurland - a far shorter journey (and I think less than 200 miles), we still took around 5 hours.
The trains are great and you'll arrive more relaxed if you do it that way. Only drawback is you can't stop at will en-route to explore anything interesting you pass.
