I've been reading this site religiously for the past several months in preparation for my trip to Italy in June. I read through lots of reviews for towns, restaurants, hotels, shops, tours, etc. I thought I would be able to find it all again using the search function. Now that the time is nearing and I am trying to put meat on the skeleton, I can't seem to find the old threads. Does anyone have suggesions on how to save selected threads and be able to easily find them again?

If there's something really important, you should probably copy it to your own machine and save it, as you never know when a thread will disappear. Some searches fail because they weren't indexed correctly (meaning the person who started them didn't click on the right place to put them), but others really do disappear, I think.

When you have the frames showing, questions at left, you can just right click on a thread and use the "save as" option. It will save a thread in whatever directory you want in some kind of default HTML format, I guess (the suffix is .jsp). I can read these threads in my WORD which is pretty old, even though they may not quite as pretty as on here.

If you just want the URL of a thread, you can get that through that right click function (the URL shows up when you click on properties).

Maybe someone else has other ways.

I copy the stuff I want and paste it into a word document. Then I can organize it by categories or areas. Often I wil print this and take it with me if it is pertinant.

I usually either print the posts or copy them to notepad where I can edit them and print from there. "Save as" is a good option.

But you asked "how to save selected threads and be able to easily find them again?"

I just tried right clicking on the right side of the screen, and used the "Add to Favorites." When I went to recover them from Favorites, there they were.

Multiple posts should be numbered when asked for the name (otherwise the original will be eliminated), and you can put the individual posts in a "Fodor's" folder for safekeeping. Post back if this works for you. ><

This would vary with your operating system and browser, but I think a universally effective practice would be to email the posting to yourself and keep it in a folder or area you will remember.

gee, I really like Clevelandbrown's solution, I should have thought of that. I do the same thing with newspaper articles where you can email a copy. I have one email account that I use only for travel information, and I email myself newspaper articles to keep, and I could also email myself Fodors threads on there. That's a great idea. This is pretty easy to do if you have an ISP that allows multiple email/screennames, or you can sign up for a free Yahoo account or something for that purpose.

For me, by the time I fill out the info required to email the thread, I find it's faster to just copy it and paste it into Word. I have a document named "Fodors Misc." and I dump everything in there. Periodically I go through it and move threads to the relevant country files so it's fairly well organized.

If I really wanted to keep info, I would not rely on saving only the url or thread title, because it has happened on occasion that fodors has lost some threads -- forever.
