Booking Ferry Tickets online (www.ferries.gr)
Now that we have finalized our itinerary and most of our hotels I would love to book our two ferry trips before leaving Canada as well.
1) Santorini - Heraklion June 25
2) Crete (Heraklion or Rethymno) - Athens June 30
I have looked at the website www.ferries.gr to book the tickets but wondered if anyone has booked directly through the website and had the tickets mailed to their home before travelling?
We are not going to Athens first so I feel nervous waiting until June 24 when we arrive in Santorini to book the tickets. I did contact Fantasy Travel in Athens to book but the price quoted seemed quite high compared to booking directly on the website.
Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated!

Hi Talia_bl,
I haven't used the ferries.gr website. But last year when I purchased ferry ticket for Croatia I used Ocean 24. Their website is www.ocean24.de and there is an icon to click for English. You might want to check them out.
They are based in Frankfurt,Germany. I ordered my tickets on their website and they mailed them to me and I received them in about a week. I believe they also sell tickets for Greek ferry lines.
Have a great trip!![Imported](https://www.fodors.com/community/images/smilies/imported/smiley.gif)

I'm also curious if anyone has bought tix thru this website and had them mailed to the U.S. I'd like to have our tix in advance as well. We need tix for the hydrofoil from Santorini to Heraklion on June 23rd. Will wait & see if anyone replies.

Don't forget that you also have the option of booking directly through the Hellenic Seaways website.

I have just returned from a trip to Greece including overnight ferry travel from Piraeus to Chania, and return from Heraklion to Piraeus.
After doing a bit of research including the www.ferries.gr site as well as a travel agency suggested by another Fodorite, I concluded there was no need to have tickets mailed to me. I booked through a site called www.aferry.to, which handled it just like airline e-ticketing... they e-mailed me a confirmation, which I presented when I arrived in Piraeus to board the ship (there's a ticket office right next to the boarding area), whereupon they printed out our tickets. It was incredibly easy, the prices were the same as those quoted on the Greek ferries website and elsewhere ... and of course there was no mailing expense.
