British Airways Premier Economy Class
If you have ridden in British Airways Premier Economy class on the Boeing 777, perhaps you can answer a question for me. Is Premier Economy worth the extra cost? (Relative to normal economy class of course.)

I flew Premier Economy on a BA 777 last month. I got free upgrades both coming and going to London due to a very strange set of circumstances. I liked it very much, but if the upgrade were not free, I would not have paid much more for it, maybe a $100 or so at the most. However, let me add that I am a very short and thin person so I am probably more comfortable in coach than most people. A taller or larger person might think that the upgrade to premier economy is money well spent.
Now on the return, I was upgraded to Club World (Business Class) and that was total airplane nirvana, definitely worth a few hundred dollars, but not a few thousand. It was nice to get that for free, but I'm sure it will never happen again.

I have the opposite problem. I am about 180, but about 6 - 1 with long legs.
Delta's B777 normal coach seating was sheer hell on earth, assuming the atmosphere is part of the planet.

I've been upgraded to it once, a couple of years ago.
You get extra legroom: the seats are the same otherwise. You get (or got) nothing else: same air, same seat configuration, same OK food at best.
I spend my own money upgrading to business on really long (20 hrs +)flights. I wouldn't waste it on premier economy for a transatlantic hop.

There are only five rows to that section of the cabin,( config is 2/4/2 instead of 3/5/3) the seats are wider with more leg room. The food, entertainment etc are the same. The cabin should be less noisy! I think it depends on how much the upgrade will cost, the other choice is to get to the airport very early and hope for an exit seat.

It all depends on the premium BA is charging. I've purchased Premium Economy for $1,100 round-trip, when the best available economy was in the $650 range. For those who can't sleep well in traditional economy, it is probably worth it.
Personally, if the $1,100 is acceptable, I'd book that then use 25,000 miles to upgrade to Club World, which as earlier posts suggest, is a world of difference (a 6 foot bed, in fact). You can get 15,000 miles just for opening a BA visa (for $60/yr or so, I think).
Finally, if traditional economy is merely $300 round-trip, I'd suck it up, drink a ton before boarding, and sleep the whole way there. I really think it should come down to your sense of value, ability to sleep, and whether you're traveling with kids.

Actually if you're on a 744 (don't know your o/d) the WT+ seats are not the same as in coach. The tray table is in the armrest, like in most "old style" business and FC seats, and the seats are around an inch wider, with legrests (that my spouse likes; however they cut off circulation in me - depends on knee location I guess.) However, the armrest-table gizmo means you can't lift the arms, so if you happen to have empty seats next to you, you can't lie down as you would in coach. The legroom was definitely superior, though.
We rode WT+ one way this spring - certainly superior to WT for a 10 hour flight. But better, we got "op-upped" into business coming back. Now <i>that's</i> the way to go - flat beds, wow. If you're in WT+ and perchance upgrades are possible, you'll be chosen to move forward over the aft masses.

In response to the recommendation for an exit row seat: The 777 exit doors are all located between the cabins, so no rows have an exit door. The only reason I know this is that last month I had to do an emergency evacuation of a BA 777, that's how I got all those nice upgrades.

We received a free upgrade to BA economy plus on a flight last June (777 aircraft.) The only real difference is the seats. You have more legroom, more spacious seats and they recline a bit more and have nicer foodrests. And they also gave us a free London newspaper as we boarded. Otherwise, it was the same as coach. It was nice to have the extra room, but I don't know if I'd pay much extra for it. I still wasn't able to sleep - guess I need to upgrade to business class if I want to sleep on the plane.
