Budget hotel help for Rome
Hello, I'm getting pretty desperate. My 21 year old daughter and a friend are looking for a safe, clean hotel in a good location for under 140.00euro or less a night. They will be there for 3nights in early November. It appears also during a busy time. Would anyone with knowledge of Rome, a good location and decent hotel, please give me some names of suggested places to stay? I greatly appreciate your help! Thanks in advance!

have you tried searching on this forum? Try typing "budget hotel in rome" or something like that. Also, www.tripadvisor.com or www.venere.com

Would a convent interest you? If so, try "ROME CONVENTS" in the Search Box. Here's one thread...

Hotel San Carlo gets consistently good reviews here and at tripadvisor.com. Spanish Steps area, 125 euro for a double superior room.

Hotel Teatro di Pompeo is just off Campo de' Fiori. Special offer: 3 nights including a Sunday, double rm for 135.

It gets very good reviews as well. Worth writing for a quote.
The hotel's own website is

Good luck

C,
I was very happy with Hotel Giardino Rome, a 2* near the Quirrianle. Great location, super friendly and helpful owners. Nothing fancy, but everything you need. My single room was 90E per night in Sept (peak season). I would think a double in Nov would be in their budget.
They have a web site and are very prompt in answering e mails.
Buon viaggio!

Cliquot1, sandi_travelnut gave good advice. Use www.venere.com to find hotels available during your dates. It will show the location and price. Then use www.tripadvisor.com to read reviews of the possible hotels.

If you're interested in the convent mentioned by Doble Vergasser, it's actually Istituto Santa Giuliana Falconieri. I just stayed there for 45E per night for a single including continental breakfast. Not sure what the double rate is, I think maybe 75E.
Fabulous location, plain but clean and perfectly adequate rooms, elevator, midnight curfew, shared baths (except for one double room that has ensuite), guard on duty at night.

I'm a personal fan of the Hotel San Carlo, but if they're booked, try Pensione Panda, about a block away on via delle Croce. Several folks from this forum have stayed there and recommended it.

One note about using venere.com for hotels. It's great for a research and review tool, but often they will show rooms not available for the time you request. If you contact the hotel directly, you will often get a different story and rooms will be available for the dates you want.
I think the hotels only release a certain # of rooms to venere.com, and only at certain times.
Buona fortuna!

Someone above mentioned Hotel Teatro di Pompeo. We stayed there in August and it was terrific. Round the corner from the Campo di Fiori and a 6 minute walk from Piazza Navona, the location is really great. We walked everywhere, with the exception of the Vatican - we took the bus. The hotel is very good value for money and the staff are excellent. Although the hotel is small there is someone on the front desk 24 hours a day, which gives a feeling of security.

Also check out www.lastminute.com for hotels---very helpful site, and it worked well for me when I once needed a place on short notice in Florence.

Try the Hotel Gabriella. My sister and I stayed there about 5 years ago and it was clean, nice size room, great breakfast, convenient to the Termini, but on what is considered the safe side of the train station. We never felt uncomfortable walking around late at night. Still gets good reviews on Trip Advisor.
