Buying custom made shoes in Italy. Any suggestions?
My wife wears a size 5M shoe and has always had hell finding shoes. It's really maddening for her. I have heard that one may be able to have a custom shoe made in Italy, that they shoemake keeps a wooden form from the fitting they make--however that is--and then you can order shoes into the far future based on that wooden form. It sounds expensive but when a woman has absolutely a nightmare finding a good fitting shoe--and her shoes have so ill fitted her in the past it contributed to her having surgery on both feet--I would love to find a shoemaker to help her out. If anyone has a referral to make to a shoemaker, that would be especially appreciated.

Rolando Segalin has been making my shoes for years. He's made shoes for every husband (accept my first) and plenty of men patronize this famous Venetian atelier.
Rolando's art is dying, indeed, but Daniela Ghezzo, his younger business partner will carry on the tradition. Having your foot measured and analyzed by Daniela is a true Zen experience, an instant orgasm for the foot fetishist.
Rolando's shoes are incredible. Every shoe feels like a slipper from the first moment you put it on and they last forever. Be forewarned, they do not design shoes. You must take several pictures or sketches of favorite designs and present those for estimates. Be prepared for the 1000 Euro price tag and the long wait. No matter what they tell you, add two months on to that. They ship anywhere and the price is included. Nothing is returnable.

Do they have to be Italian?
Surely you can get bespoke shoes in the US?
Have you tried the various US Associations for the shoe industry?
That way they won't have to come so far and may not be so very expensive allowing a more frequent purchasing cycle... sure to make you EVEN MORE popular!
Good hunting!

I have those tiny feet also, and yes, it is hard to find shoes! One thing I have noticed is that the higher end shoes always fit much better. My mom told me years ago to never scrimp on shoes and she was right At Ferragamo my husband was looking to buy shoes and the person helping him did not even have to measure his foot...she just studied his feet for a moment and was off. She came back with shoes that fit him absolutely perfect!!! My husband keeps saying he should have bought more. Guess that means we need to go back. So maybe have her try that and if that does not work then try the custom route.

These are superb suggestions and will have a direct bearing on how we schedule our time for our 25th Anniversary. Ferragamo's is on the list as a place to visit. Then, as much as I have not wanted to go to Venice myself, my wife has wanted to very much so, I'm including it on the itinerary. Should we then need to go the custom shoe route, we will check into the other wonderful suggestion. I should add that I was going to subscribe to the weekly magazine with the wonderful article on the cobbler; however, I found on its site that it is shutting down after 5 years. Too bad! I would have enjoyed the publication. If there are any similar, please post the URL for same and I will review and decide if something I would like to purchase.
