I am in the pre-planning stages of a possible 3 week trip to Sardinia-Calabria in August. I am thinking 10 nights Sardinia, then the overnight ferry from Cagliari to Naples. I will have 2 nights to spend somewhere between Naples and the Tropea area before I visit family for 7 nights. I would prefer it to be about a 2-3 hour drive or so from Naples, as I would like it to be a mid-way point before going to see my family in Calabria on the southeastern coast of Calabria. Any thoughts? It doesn't necessarily have to be a beach town either, just an interesting place to spend 2 nights.

On the east -- Polignano di Mare. Enter that in the search function and see a couple of rave posts I've done on this wonderful little town and the super hotel/restaurant Palazzo Grotto there. My favorite spot in Italy.

I would suggest Maratea. It has an exceptional view (similar to Amalfi coast) and the beaches are beautiful, isolated amongst the rock faces. There are some little towns to visit inland. There are nice beaches at Sapri and Praia a Mare.
Good luck and have a great trip. Gerry near London Canada

Bob- I'm usually a 3-star hotel person, but Villa Cheta looks so charming I may have to go over budget for 2 nights if I go to Maratea! The outside shots remind me of Pensione Svizzera in Taormina. Beautiful.
