The poster hasn't specified her timings.
From mid-April 2007, the current UK rules on carryon baggage will be extended to ALL flights taking off from an EU or EEA airport.
No bag with dimensions bigger than 56cm x 45cm x 25 cm may be taken onto any plane in Western Europe. If the poster proposes travelling in April or after, her bag will have to be checked in if it exceeds these dimensions

Shouldn't be a problem since that equals 22 x 17+ x 9+ inches which is larger than most US carriers allow for carry on (usually 22 x 14 x 9) The new European rules actually make doing carry-on only a bit easier.
