Cheap winter airfare-March 2005

Hello,
Any idea when the airfare winter special is coming up and which ailine most likely to run promo to Europe? Planning a trip to Prague from Dulles Washington.
For those of you who was able to travel early this year to this destination how much did you pay for your airfare?
thanks.

Hi
Most major airlines plus the travel websites travelocity, expedia, orbitz, etc allow you to register for email alerts on routings and prices that interest you. Register for more than one destination, when you start noticing that deals are becoming frequent, it's time to do some serious investigating.

Someone else posted today that they can get a great package deal for Prague for next March at go-today.com, an organization that usually gets praise here.

enjoylife99,

The most you should have to pay is around $500. You probably will be able to find something under $400 if you work at it.

Remember, that is spring break time so it might not be as cheap as you'd like. But around 400-500 is reasonable.

I like low fares as much as anyone but those "recommendations" implying that if you pay out of the $500 range should be heeded WITH a certain amount of caution. I say this because these numbers are obviously based on airfare levels FROM THE PAST and as we all know, prices generally go up over time and not down.

I remember once paying $600 for a RT to Europe in the Summer and I thought THAT was outrageous.

I think Elaine gives good advice on this but the cost of airfares will be based on the amount of competition on a route and the number of seats sold.

Just don;t want you feeling like some kind of jerk if you pay more than that "recommended" $4-500. Good luck.

Depending on when in March the sale may already be on. Check Travelocity. The Sale is on beginning Nov.--and may be through March. If not, it is too soon. Around $450 ought to do it.

I have flown to Prague a couple times from IAD and I think it unlikely that you should be able to get that flight for under $400 in Spring. That is not a cheap route and less than $400 RT air to Prague is something I've never seen, even in winter. There are hardly any European places you can fly for that amount. I think $500 is a more reasonable target.

Topman,

These are not air fares FROM THE PAST. Yesterday you could book a round trip fare tax included New York-London for $281 on British Air.
In May, purchased tickets Chicago-Paris for $373 for travel in March 2005. This past March we flew Chicago-London for $298.

The poster was looking for "Cheap winter airfare-March 2005". Not "What should I expect to pay without making much effort".

As a follow-up, I just checked on orbitz. For $570 or less you have your choice of three airlines to fly round trip from DC-Prague, March 2-9.

I have to think that you could improve on this significantly between now and Jan.

I've tried checking today few major websites and it appears the range between $500-680 when I was inputting different dates around that period.
Earlier this week when BA had a sale, I thought I saw on cheaptickets.com a fare of $430 which was a great deal to me but then we did not make up our mind which city to go in March until the sale ended.Thank you all for taking the time responding. I will then keep my eyes open for future promo.
