Cheated by CYBERCITYGUIDES.COM

I tried to book a hotel in Paris through the UK-based www.cybercityguides.com website in September 2004. I got an automated reply (not a confirmation of booking) assigning a reference number, and stating that their Paris representative will confirm availability, usually within 24 hours. I did not receive any confirmation despite sending them reminder emails. Finally I sent them an email on 26 Sept telling them that I had made alternative bookings and my credit card should not be charged. I also phoned them and a gentleman in their Paris office assured me that my card won't be charged. I followed up with 2 more emails but they never replied. Contrary to what their web site mentions, I never got any confirmation, invoice, vouchers etc. My card has been charged for the full amount and neither cybercityguides nor their Paris rep is replying to any emails/complaints.

I have been booking online for years but this is the first bad experience I have had. I just want all readers to be aware and exercise caution in dealing with this company.

Have you protested to your credit card company?

Forward this thread to the vendor with a comment that there are at least 50,000 registered users on this website (I believe that is the # quoted on another thread). And definitely dispute with credit card co.

Thanks. I have raised it with the credit card issuer, but also want travellers to know. Most online agents I have dealt with have been quite customer focused, quick to reply to emails etc. but no responses at all from [email protected], the address listed on their web site.
