My husband and I went to Germany in early December for the Christmas markets. We traveled independently and rented a car instead of using trains. We limited ourselves to Bavaria to make it less miles to travel. The cities we visited were: Regensburg, Nuremberg, Bamberg, Dinkelsbuhl, Augsburg and Munich. We spent one night in each place and it was enough time to see the markets as well as a little extra exploring. It's not hard to do it this way and you can be the captain of your own ship. Rental cars in Germany come equipped with excellent GPS and you're ready to go. One market we really liked was the Thurn und Taxis market in Regensburg. The market takes place on the grounds of the Thurn und Taxis Palace. Magical with all the lights! The other one we loved was the Nuremberg market. It's one of the oldest in Germany. Let me know if you desire additional information. Whichever way you travel, via guided tour or independently, you'll love the experience.

chacha7602 - thanks for your comments - I really appreciate it. We decided to book a coach tour - will do Black Forest, Strasbourg, Wurzburg, Nuremberg, Neuschwanstein Castle, Oberammergau and Munich. Really excited - definitely something always on my bucket list to do and now it will happen!!!

Kathy123x, you will LOVE the experience, I'm sure. Germany really knows how to do Christmas! Everything is decorated so beautifully and their decorations are almost all Christ based! Really tasteful. Have a wonderful time!
