Classic apartments in Venice?
Does anyone have suggestions regarding apartments in Venice? We're planning on going for Carnevale 2005 and looking for 2 bedrooms in a classic old Venetian style (although heated and dry.) We're not too picky on location, but prefer to be away from San Marco since it will be so busy. Price wise - less than 2,000 euro / week.
Thanks!
Thanks!

Try a search for Palazzetto da Schio. It's an old Italian palazzo that is still lived in by the family that built it. A number of apartments are available. Reviews here and on www.slowtrav.com have been favorable.

Eloise - thanks for the info. We'll be looking into Palazzetto da Schio as well as one called Ca' Zen. I had already contacted the one in Palazzo Regina Vittoria but it was not available for our time frame. Thanks again!

We just returned from Venice a week ago where we stayed at the Palazzetto da Schio. We had a charming and very comfortable 2-bedroom, 2 bath apartment overlooking the canal. The Contessa da Schio was most hospitable and helpful. We loved the location, very quiet and convenient. We were able to take the water taxi right to the door. We will stay there again.

we stayed at the schio last march just after the festivities....it is very centrally located in the dorsoduro area not far from the peggy guggenheim museum....10 minute walk to a large grocery store and lost of restaurants in the area...the contessa who owns the building and lives in the building is charming....the apartments are very well equipted...the bed we had was more comfortable than most upscale hotels....i can't say enough for the place....we had one of the smaller apartments---#5 i think on the mezzaine...it really sleeps four but 2 people share a quirky elevated bed area....great for kids but not adults really....big enough for adults but not room in that area for anything but sleeping...
the kitchen has dishwasher, sink, stove, washer/dryer and fridge...we ate in several meals and every breakfast...it is a very quiet location...5 minutes to the salute stop on the grand canal....the house faces directly on a small side canal...
you will not be unhappy with this location or with this apartment....it is traditional rather than modern...the contessa is very conservative and respectful....she cares about you having a good experience in venice and spends 30-45 minutes with you after arrival to aquaint you with the apartment and the locale...there are guide books and maps in the apartment...she is a gem....
