Close to Zurich--but not Zurich? (Yet another thread)
So have decided we would really like to stay closer to Zurich than try to get from Luzern to Zurich an 8am flight out OR stay in Luzern and then change hotels for a night.
Can anyone recommend a Zurich suburb or small close by town (with direct airport access or close) where we can stay at less expense? We will need a hotel for three nights.
Thank you. I have really appreciated all of your advice so far!
Rachel

Hi Rachel - Some years back, a poster wrote a wonderful trip report of her vacation in Switzerland and mentioned Hotel Zum Goldenen Kopf in Bülach, where she spent her last night before her departure. The hotel is located in the historic center of town. She posted some very nice pictures of the surrounding architecture. Best of all, it's only 10 minutes from the airport Zürich-Kloten and seems to be reasonably priced. I may stay there on my next trip myself

Rapperswil would be a good place to stay, about an hour from Zurich on the train and also a good location to do some nice daytrips. If you put "near Zurich airport" and "Kuesnacht" in the search box you will get some past replies on this
subject that should be helpful. We stayed in Rapperswil and went to St. Gallens and Appenzell
for day trips several years ago.

Hi Rachel,
I used to have a friend who lived in a suburb of Zürich, and I visited her a few times and stayed in the town of Küsnacht. I love this little town, with a little park by the lake and a big Coop to buy last-minute chocolates.
I stayed twice at the Seehotel Sonne (www.sonne.ch) and loved it, especially its lakeside garden bar/cafe. You leave the Küsnacht train station, walk on the underpass under the busy main street, and you are at the entrance to the hotel as you emerge! There are a few direct trains to the airport every hour.
Hope this helps!

I second the suggestion of Sonne in Kuesnacht. The hotel is rather nice, the food in their restaurant is among the better you can get in the region, you've got the lake right in front of you and a choice whether you want to make it into Zurich within approx. 10 min. by train or opt for the scenic route by ship from the berth at the back of the hotel.
And: it's also a non-stop train ride to the airport if I recall correctly.
