Clothing in cathdrals

I know this has been discussed, but I can't get the search to bring it up. Does the covered shoulders/knees rule apply to men as well as women in cathedrals in Rome? Can shorts be worn if they cover the knees? Thanks!<BR>

Do you wear shorts in church at home?

I recommend the wearing of Capri pants for both sexes when visiting cathedrals in Rome. Never wear shorts, blue jeans, t-shirts (sleeveless or sleeved), caftans, turbans, or crinoline.

My husband and I have been in churches all over Rome, Florence, Venice, etc. He always wore shorts and a tee shirt. i wore capris and a tank top and took a shawl that I put over my shoulders when we went in the churches. No, this is not how we dress at home to go to church but this is how we dress as tourists in the July heat in Italy. Most of the people we saw were dressed the same way.

Covered knees and shoulders for both sexes is apparently God's holy law.

Thanks a lot for the help. To answer xxx's question, yes people show up at our church in all kinds of dress and no one has been turned away yet. I have no problems with others' rules, but don't want to go overboard in the August heat if we don't have to.
