IMHO the best day trip out of London is to Paris. It is a long day and you just get a tiny glimpse of Paris but it will be a memorable day.

divorced, beheaded, survived"

*Jane Seymour, the only one he seems to have really loved (though it might just be that she died just in time).

His first wife, Ann of Cleves, or one of his first was from Flanders and she was i guess so ugly that before she came they called her the Flemish Mare. She didn't last long.

Anne Bolyenes (sp?) ghost is still said to haunt the palace.

Hampton Court and Windsor Castles are certainly worth a trip. Several bus companies do daytrips to them. Something more off the tourist route is Waddesdon Manor--A really amasing piece of work!

IMO, Bath and Oxford are too much to do in one day with the traffic jams in and out of London. It takes about 3 hours one way to Bath from London--just did that trip in May.

Greenwich by boat and back by rail is a nice daytrip.

Don't bother paying a company to take you to Hampton Court or Windsor - both are very easily reached by rail. Hampton Court from Waterloo and Windsor from either Waterloo or Paddington. Both are about half an hour. Also there are combibned rail and admission tickets that look like good value.

I agree - Hampton Court is easily reached by rail from Waterloo; it's only about a 35 min. ride., a short walk to the castle from the station.
