Day trip from Rome to Tivoli and Hadrian's villa nearby

I did this trip some years ago and recollect a very tiresome succession of underground trains and buses to get up to Tivoli, a trip back down to Hadrian's villa then back into Rome.

Any suggestions from anyone who has done it more recently?

Hi servaeus; Google or Yahoo 'Hadrian' Villa Tours' and you will find many bus tours. We took a bus tour that also included a spectacular Villa garden. Your hotel will also know of 'bus tours' to these villa's and will make the reservation. No stress, usually get picked up at your hotel and dropped off. Enjoy iris1745/dick

Hi Iris - The main tour companies - Vastours, Appian, Carrani, Greenline - all offer Tivoli (- Hadrian's Villa/ Villa d'Este) as a half-day.
Cost: Typically € 55-60

http://www.vastours.it/eng/vastours/...ular_roma.html

These tours tend to be rushed and don't allow enough time IMO for a leisurely visit.

Public transport (- Metro 'B' to Ponte Mammolo, then bus) is an inexpensive alternative.

Hope this helps ...

Steve

Hi steve; I would probably agree with you. I think at the water garden we could have had a bit more time, but the transport helped make it an easy half day trip. We enjoyed. iris1745/dick

I took the train to Tivoli - did the gardens then hopped the bus to the H Villa and bus there back to Rome - seemed seemless to me and i could make my own agenda due to high frequency of bus service.

Note some buses do not serve H Villa entrance directly but stop only on the main road outside the ruins.
