Day trip to Lake Bled from Ljubljana

Want to make a day trip to Lake Bled from Ljubljana in early June - would you recommend organized trip or DIY? We purposely don't rent cars overseas, so driving isn't an option. If DIY, is it better to take the train or bus? The tour route would be easier, but not a fan of time constraints, so actually would prefer the DIY route. Planning trip for a Sunday-does the train/bus have a different schedule than it would on a weekday? Thanks!

It's an easy trip to do by yourself. The train to Bled Lesche is only an hour (or less). From the station you can either take the city bus or a taxi. Bled is a small town. You can walk around the lake in a couple of hours. Or take one of the boat rides out to the island. It will be a lovely day. I don't know the train schedule but they are frequent.

Take the bus, because it drops you off in the center of town. Much easier. It takes maybe 2.5 hrs and was ~$7-12ow, can't remember exactly. It stops right outside the train station in Ljubljana and right by the lake in Bled. The buses left quite frequently as well. Buy ticket on the bus from driver. Anyway, if you opt to take the train instead of bus, the stations are right next to each other, so no worries.

Bus is simple and the view is better than the train...... all other posts give you the picture and the trip is 1.5 hours. A good extension for a one day trip is to catch the Bus to Bohinj which goes past Bled then returns. We did this and had a drink at the turnaround point and returned to continue to see Bled . Other folk got off the bus at Bohinj and went to a waterfall and caught the next bus back. ( no need for us New Zealanders to look at another Mountain Scene ) It is an easy day and even if you walk right around the lake (stopping for the obligatory libations) it will fit into a full day . Try the train back from Bled for a change of scenery..... Slovenia is the easiest country in Europe to work out and move around so no need for premature bookings.

King Roscoe-Your suggestion of overshooting Bled for Bohinj then back to Bled is a good one - and one that I wish we had before our trip! We simply loved our day trip to Bled-wound up taking the bus from Ljubljana (very easy to arrange) and enjoying the scenery along the way. The weather was perfect and Bled wasn't crowded at all. On our entire trip, the only time we encountered other Americans was on the plenta out to the island! Hindsite being what it is, I now wish we've have stayed longer in Ljubljana and used that as a base to explore more areas of Slovenia as it's simply amazing.
