Day trips from Prague, Aachen, Mitterfels?
We are soon going to Europe for a trip which will include Maastricht, (Holland), The area near Aachen Germany, and the area near Mitterfels Germany (near Austria and Czech Republic). We will also be in Prague. I would love suggestions for site seeing in these areas, and especially for day trip ideas from any of these locations. Inexpensive restaurants that might have vegetarian food are also helpful! thanks.

From Aachen, Monschau, to the south, makes a great daytrip. There's an open-air farm museum near Metternich that's worth a trip, too. Go to www.mechernich.de, hit the English option, and click on "Rheinisches Freilichtmuseum".

Cesky Krumlov (famous castle town)or Terezin (of Holocaust era) make good day trips from Prague. There are tour busses that leave daily from the area near Wenceslas Square, and they are reasonably priced.

The Eifel mountains are not far away to the south-east of Aachen.
For something different you might like to watch a display of falconry, e.g. in Blankenheim, which is beyond Moschau, which Russ recommended.

On the road between Maastricht and Aachen in the town of Margraten there is an American Cemetery and Memorial. There are several thousand graves of US service men who died in World War II.
There is a small chapel and memorial walls honoring the names of the missing.
The cemetery is cared for by the Dutch and is well worth the hour or so it takes to visit it.
I agree with Russ about a trip to the south. We traveled through that area while driving to Cochem. Enjoy

Karlovy Vary a/k/a Karlsbad is a great-looking resort town (a 2-hour drive from Prague).

Since you are going to be in Mitterfels, can I assume you are in a timeshare? I spent a week there in September and I would recommend the bus trip that goes to Regensburg. Also, Nuremberg is not far. Don't miss the historic center of Straubing either - it's only a few minutes away. Try the monastery at Metten too.
