Decent yet fairly inexpensive hotel in Zurich.
I'm on a fairly strict budget for my trip. Now an unexpected delay of the person meeting me does not allow me to travel from Zurich to Saanenland on the same day. Now I need to find decent (safe & clean) yet hopefully somewhat inexpensive (less than 100 CHF a night)accomodation for the middle of March.
Looking for suggestions.
Thanks!
Susie

Pension St. Josef's website indicates a single w/o shower or toilet for 95 CHF. http://www.st-josef.ch/hotel/e/hotel_e2.html
Martahaus seems to be about 86 CHF. http://www.martahaus.ch/en/prices/

Check out http://www.walhalla-hotel.ch/en/frameset.html I stayed there when my visit was unexpectedly extended and they were most pleasant. They have an annex across the small street with rooms that are simpler but very clean and functional, and you can still use the main hotel restaurant for breakfast if you like.

Hi. Interested to read seamus' comment about the walhalla annex. It's been awhile, but I had to find unexpected overnight space in Zurich many years ago, and the only affordable rooms left in Zurich were in the Walhalla annex. Don't know if they've changed, but at the time they were like dormatory rooms. They filled a need, but don't expect there to be any hotel ambience. Yes, you can use the main hotel dining facilities. Seamus, can you elaborate? Have the annex rooms been renovated? Thanks. SusieChef, you might also look at the bnb.ch website. There are sure to be bed and breakfasts in the vicinity. J.

The bnb.ch site led me to this: http://www.sleepinzurich.ch/index2.html, which also looks promising (thanks, jmw).
It's been several years since I visited Zurich and this thread is sparking an interest in returning!

jmw44 - yes, they were rather spartan in decor but clean, safe and comfortable rooms. Not a place to spend a deluxe vacation for sure, but in a situation similar to yours (emergency extension of time in Zurich) it was the best I could find in a reasonable price range, and the staff were very helpful.
