Entering uk with one way ticket how much hassle will I get?
I'm flying out to England June 25 from Chicago. I am a us citizen going to visit my boyfriend and stay til the end of october on a one way ticket. I have every intention of flying back end of October but thought I might get more hassle if I bought a roundtrip because I would be staying for 3.5 months. I am smart enough not to mention a boyfriend at emigration and intend on showing them an onward ticket to Poland where I have family and plan on staying (a total lie since I don't plan on leaving England). Let's say my onward ticket would be a week after I arrive and I flew into manchester to visit some friends. Would I have any trouble getting through emigration? My polish ticket will not have a return flight on it so it would prove in a sense that I'm not coming back to the uk. would I need to show proof of funds? If so what's a good amount?
Thanks
My biggest fear is being sent back to the us but how likely is it with this scenario?

Do not buy a one way ticket. They will be concerned. If you don't know when you're going back, buy an open return.
There's no problem in having a boyfriend here. That's allowed. Lie, get caught and you will stuff up all prospects of future entrance. Don't be stupid.
They need to know you have enough to live on. Carry a letter from your boyfriend showing he's providing accommodation, and I doubt they will ask for more. Have a credit card at the ready.

Of course she can have a UK boyfriend, but the UK Border Agency are wary of boy/girlfriend as they suspect the passenger may be trying to overstay or work illegally. At the very least she will be asked about their relationship, how they have met, how long they've known each other, any previous visits in US or UK etc. If she wants to tell the truth, she must have letter of sponsorship (as Sheila suggests), make clear she will be returning to US by showing a letter from her boss expecting her back by certain date or other responsibilities like educational course she is on and she has enough funds - recent bank statement as evidence.
