Exchange Rate?

What is the US Dollar to Euro exchange rate. I know it changes - I just wanted a base # to calculate costs.

Thanks

Be aware that the websites provided usually do conversions based on the current "bank rate" which is the rate that banks charge EACH OTHER for currency exchanges/conversions. Inevitably the rate that YOU will get from, say, an ATM, will not be quite as good but these on-line converters remain an excellent reference point for approximate values private citizens can expect.

Hi Wanda,

If you figure about $1.24/E, you won't be disappointed.

OK, Wanda, I'll answer your question since you aren't concerned with to the minute rates. It's about 1.24 to the euro. Take the number of euro and multiply by 1.24 and you'll be about right, right now.

For those who do want to look at a currency converter (it is true what Topman said, but still a good reference point!) I find http://www.xe.com/ucc/ to be the easiest to use. (I checked out the one that was listed on this thread - and it seemed a little too complicated)

i use this one from the economist:
http://www.economist.com/markets/Currency/Index.cfm

try to read the articles! it's like another language . . .

they have a good "cities guide" as well.

I'm disappointed.
I want it to be < $1.20 / E for my trip in September. Fat chance.

Melissa:

Why are the articles in The Economist "like another language"?

Economist articles are the definition of proper English. Even the BBC, by comparison, cannot be relied on to get it right.

Surely their style book is next to your desk? If not, what language do you speak?

The rate that everyone is quoting is $1.24, but on wellsfargo.com, their exchange rate (if I as a person wanted to buy foreign currency) is $1.29. Which one would I get when using my ATM card?

Using your ATM card - you would get the 1.24 rate (or the best available rate).

So... The $1.29 only applies if I want to buy currency before I go? Bummer. I was hoping to avoid the ATM line in the airport upon arrival.

Alternatively, simply add 25% to the Euro cost of your item and you'll be close to the USD amount.

oh, ha ha, flanneruk. quot;>

somehow i understand the economist article on jean-paul gaultier much better than those on economic indicators and fluctuations. why is that?

perhaps i never should have dropped econ. 101 back in the day . . .

The Economist is about the eastiest-to-read magazine out there. That's why people pay so much for it. It makes sense and gets to the point. And it doesn't take any sort of economics background to understand.

Hey Mark,

It might get down to $1.22 by late Sept.

Or, it might not.
