Eyedrops on UK flights
Has anyone been able to take a small bottle of eyedrops on board to their UK to US flight, or purchase eyedrops in a terminal shop and bring it on board?
Now before anyone starts flaming me, I understand "no liquids" means NO LIQUIDS. I also know that safety/security is of utmost importance and I read the previous thread about contact lens wearers but I cannot understand why freshly purchased (from the airport terminal with receipt)lens re-wetting drops or saline is still banned.
I'd appreciate any advice if you've been able to do this or any suggestions on how you've kept your eyeballs moist.

You should be able to take this on. The TSA's updated guidelines provide for certain exceptions to the prohibited items. This is a quote from their new guidelines under the exceptions category:
"Essential non-prescription medicines, including eye care products such as eye drops and contact lens solution (no more than 4 ounces per container)"

My understanding of the ban(s) is it/they are to prevent anyone using certain liquids (or perhaps ANY liquids) once on board to combine it/them with other substances to concoct an exlposive device. That explains why where you purchased it/them becomes irrelevant.

The only way you can bring any liquid medication from UK to US is if it is a prescription with a name of the label that matches the name of the traveler. If you can get the eyedrops filled as a prescription, then you would be allowed. Otherwise, they are being very careful. Expect a search off all your carry-on luggage and a full hand-search (pat-down) of you as well. At least that is what we got on our American Airlines Glasgow to LA flight on Sunday.
