feasible to drive Verona to Innsbruck & back in December?
we are spending christmas in italy but a priority is to get to innsbruck to visit friends. In summer we've done the brenner pass...no problem. all the train and plane options I've looked at are very inconvenient, so, since we have a car, I want to make the trip by car. Can I expect this to work out ok?

You will be on major highways which should stay open and cleared barring a big storm as you actually travel. I assume that you have experience driving in snow/ice (very different than in good weather) and that your car will be equipped as necessary for the roads and legally for the conditions (when you rent the car you should tell the company you will be driving into Austria).
Check on snow tires and make sure the car is equipped - with blankets, water, etc - as necessary.
Also,, whatever you do don;t accept a car with rear-wheel drive, which will fishtail all over the road.
