Ferry Question

We leave next week for Greece. I am starting to get worried about our ferry from Mykonos to Santorini. We have reservations on the high speed for Sunday the 28th. Weather.com is showing it is going to be windy. Will that cause the ferry to be canceled. Are there other ferries that can travel during the windy times that may just be slower? Have reservations at an expensive hotel in Oia that I don't want to miss because of the ferry service. Are there flights between the two islands? Am I just being overly worried about this? Thanks.

No weather forecast is accurate more than five days out, so just wait until you get to Mykonos and check while you are there. FlyingCat 4 seldom gets cancelled - it takes winds over Beaufort 7 (32-38mph) for that to happen - but the ride can be rough when it is windy.

Unfortunately there aren't any larger ferries between Mykonos and Santorini. There is one airline with flights between the two islands, http://www.skyexpress.gr/. Their schedule page is under construction at the moment, so I can't tell if there is a flight that day. As a last resort you could fly back to Athens and get a connecting flight to Santorini.

I suspect that if the wind is strong enough to cancel the FC4 then the Sky Express plane will be gounded as well, since it's small, only l9 passengers.

One other option would be to see if there is a morning ferry (sometimes it's calmer in the morning) that will take you from Mykonos to Paros where you can catch the Blue Star Paros at Noon on her way to Santorini from Athens. This is a very large ferry and would still be a comfortable ride in strong winds and/or choppy seas.

Good point from brotherleelove. SeaJet 2 should be leaving at 1000, and as long as it is on time, will reach Paros an hour before Blue Star departs there for Santorini. I took SeaJet 2 from Mykonos to Paros in June this year, because I couldn't be bothered to wait for FlyingCat 4 in the afternoon.

SeaJet 2 is about the same size as FlyingCat 4, though, so just as likely to be cancelled, but as BLL said winds are often calmer in the morning. Plan on taking SeaJet 2 - Blue Star and it will give you two chances to get to Santorini by ferry that day - and you will arrive on Santorini at 3:00pm instead of 5:25pm.
