Flights from Paris to Vienna?
I'm trying to book a flight from Paris to Vienna. I heard on the board that Buzz traveled this route, but it seems that they do not travel there anymore.

I'd rather not take a 13 hour train ride, and I am looking for flights either from Paris-Vienna or London-Vienna.

I found a British Airway flight from London-Vienna, but it was about $230 rt...is this price about how much it will be??

I've flown this route a few times, and that's a very reasonable price. I believe the train would cost about that much.

I just did Ryanair from London to Salzburg for 29 pounds, and the train from Salzburg to Vienna (3 and a half hours) for 42 euros. Time-consuming, though -- if you're looking for convenience I'd take the BA flight.

MG, I was actually thinking of flying with ryan air and then taking a train...but, was the experience really bad? Would you ever do it again, or was it very tiresome?

I tried to book a flight from Paris-Vienna with Air France, but it came up to be $1,030 - I think I'll try to find another way to get to Vienna!

On a side note, does anyone think it is really worth it to spend this much to go to Vienna and only stay 3-4 days? I always hear that Vienna is beautiful, but I don't know what to do in the city.

I've flown Paris to Vienna on Air France and it was only a couple hundred dollars (one way), if that. That was a couple years ago and may have been cheaper because it was a connection after flying from US to Paris (and I then flew Paris back home a few weeks later, on Air France, in-between I took the train from Vienna to Salzburg to Strasbourg to Paris. I don't think there are a lot of cheap airlines that fly to Vienna, it's a problem. that BA flight looks very cheap to me, but then you'd have to pay to get to London, I guess. I think 3-4 days in Vienna is fine, but I wouldn't pay a whole lot to do that -- maybe a couple hundred dollars at most. I'd just save Vienna for a trip where it makes more sense in the itinerary. I didn't really like Vienna that well, myself -- it was okay, but not on my favorite city lists--four days was enough for me.

Just got back from 2.5 days in Vienna.... of course that's not enough, but I found plenty to do! In the context of a larger trip, but we flew from Paris to Vienna on AF using FF miles. When I was pricing the trip, it was about $280 each (long advance purchase). In three very leisurely days, we did the following:

Fri (starting about noon): Lippizaner museum, St. Stephens, Vienna Boys Choir Concert (whole point of trip!), lots of walking around, dinner.

Sat: Lippizaner morning traning session; clock museum (neat small thing to do!); more walking around central city; Schonnbrun Palace in the afternoon. This was beautiful, and could have used lots more time there.

Sun: Mass at Hofburgkappelle (Vienna Boys Choir again), Saltzkammer (sp?) at the Hofburg Palace (that's the Church Treasury museum...they have Charlemagne's sword; Holy Lance...tons of history...wish we'd had more time there).. More walking around seeing pretty stuff...stop at United Chocolates for Mozart Kugels (our major shopping blunder of our whole trip was not tasting these before we left so we'd know to buy LOTS more!).

We stayed at Pension Pertschy and loved it. We skipped the art museums and the insides of palaces...plenty of those to see if that's your thing. It's a beautiful city (but I liked Salzburg better!).

I think it is worth visiting, but it is a long way from Paris. If I was planning the trip again, I'd skip Paris and just do Salzburg - Venice - Vienna.

Hope this helps!
Anne

Thew new low cost service from www.airlibexpress.com - - Paris to Venice - - might be a worthwhile option. Not such a terrible train ride from Venice to Vienna perhaps - - and you get to go to Venice in the process!

Hope the fares from airlibexpress don't turn out to be too good to be true.

Best wishes,

Rex
take the train overnight and get a sleeper car.....you'll save the money that you would have spent for two nights in a hotel......not to mention the two half days that you would have spent dealing with flights

and by the way ....vienna is awesome
