Frankfurt airport hotel?

My wife and I need an overnight room at or near the Frankfurt airport -- one that will not cost an arm and a leg. We arrive by train, but the connection to our flight is much too tight. So we plan to take an earlier train, stay overnight, and fly out next day. From experience, this is safer and easier on the nerves. What can you advise?

There is only one hotel in Frankfurt airport, the quite pricey Sheraton. Other "airport" hotels are in the boonies and you would have to take some kind of shuttle bus from them to the airport.
As Frankfurt airport is just 15 min from the main station or 20 min from the city center of Frankfurt by S-Bahn (suburban train) you can look at all hotels along the S-Bahn main axis (Konstablerwache/Hauptwache/Hauptbahnhof stations)

For hotels see www.hotel.de

Across the street from the main train station in Frankfurt is the Excelsior hotel. It is more of a business hotel, but is very clean and the prices are very good. I think we paid about 60 euros last year.

It takes about 15 minutes to get to the airport by train.

We have stayed at the Steigenberger hotel just adjacent to the terminals area. It is usually cheaper than the Sheraton. They have a shuttle to transport you back and forth but it is a very short ride. One of my fav restaurants anywhere is the "Unterschweinstiege" which is located on the property of the hotel- an old hunting lodge. It is rich with history and has excellent food.

There is also a somewhat wooded area with walking paths next to the hotel and I have always enjoyed a little hike here after a long flight!

There are vast numbers of very reasonably priced hotels, pensions and B&B's in Frankfurt. There is no good reason to stay at the airport. Why not stay in the city and see a little bit of what Frankfurt has to offer. Perhaps one of the charming neighborhoods, like WestEnd or Sachsenhausen or Bornheim.

The s-bahn takes 11 min. to the Hauptbahnhof and 15 to the Hauptwache. A taxi will cost around 30-35 € depending on traffic and where you are going.

I actually think the hotel next to the Excelsior, Hotel Monopol oozes a lot more charm. Usually for the same price, same free mini bar, free breakfast, free coffee and cake all day long and pretty friendly staff. Though the people at Excelsion are also nice.

We stayed at Intercity airport hotel last year and were very pleased. Very nice, clean, quiet air conditioned room with a view of the little park out front. They had a nice buffet where you could choose all or only parts depending
on your appetite. We took their shuttle from the airport to the hotel and back and it was a very short ride.We would stay there again.
