My number is 18, so far.

Like cfnculvercity, my goal is 100 different countries (but in my lifetime, since I can't travel as much as that.

For those interested, there is a club you can join if you visit 100 countries - it's called Travel Century Club. The website is www.travelerscentryclub. I am not advertising it, finding it one day last year is what gave me my goal.

Also, they count "countries and destinations that are policitcally, ethnologically, or geographically different". There are 317 of these.

I'm using their list as my guide.

Happy travels,
Karen

I've been to 48 if my count is correct. The reason I'm not sure if my count is correct is that I'm counting Scotland and Northern Ireland as seperate countries. I know they are all part of the UK. Should those be counted?

great game - and kaudrey, thanks for the intro to the travellerscenturyclub which shall visit soon. Never knew there were 317 countries to visit. Maybe I can UP my total that way without leaving my ricketty chair (the back keeps falling out which must impress the people downstairs no end).

Meanwhile, I wish to add Indonesia to my list; and I never thought of counting my original country - Britain; or places I'd only spent a few days; or places I went to as a child.

I'll settle for adding Indonesia and Germany (3 nights!! and a long time at wonderful Koln catherdral).

So .. 50 - half way to the magic 100 (joke!!)

The U.S.
The Bahamas
Albania
Corsica
Sardinia
Sicily
Greece
Ionian Islands
Italy
Vatican City
Canada

So, only 12. I actually am going to Sardinia and Corsica this summer, so those 2 are actually pending

just looked at that travelcenturyclub website and I can add a few more

hawaiian islands, the canary islands, the balearic islands, gibraltar, northern ireland and san marino...so that makes 38 countries in total.

i've also flown through Bahrain and the Maldives...but as I didn't leave the airport, they don't count!!

OK, according to that website's definitions, I've got 14. I don't feel right about including Hawaii and Alaska as separate countries, but I see the point of them being separate.

When I was 13 my mom took me on one of those 17 countries in 15 days tours so I don't remember for sure, but am sure we went to Italy, France, Germany, Switzerland and some little country...I don't know if it counts because I hardly remember any of it.

In college I did a Semester at Sea - we began in Long Beach, traveled to Tawain, Hong Kong, Singapore, Sri Lanka, India, Greece, Spain, Egypt and Morrocco, ended up in Baltimore, literaly circling the globe on a ship. We took college classes on board while at sea and then were unleashed upon the countries for very short 1 - 2 day visits. Was a great experience, if you have kids in college, I'd check it out.

Went to Israel in 81 and again in 2000.

Now I'm taking my teenage kids to Italy in May.

Oh yea, I grew up in Southern Cal so took a few trips to Ensenada Mexico, but so many people there from the US, not sure if that counts as another country.

Wow! It's wonderful what a quantity and variety of places people here have visited. Great to be able to seek advice from such a knowledgeable bunch.

Here's my list:
USA, Canada, Mexico, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Liechtenstein, Japan, England, Hong Kong (while still British), Brazil, Ireland, Scotland, Wales, Australia.

So 15, including US where I live.

Soon to add France!

Oops, just realized I forgot Singapore, Malasia and Thailand!

Gotta get to Africa and Antarctica so I can say I've been to all seven continents.

Brazil, Argentina, Japan (2x), Thailand, Cambodia, India, Nepal, Hong Kong (3x), China, Sri Lanka, Greece (2x), France (5x), Italy (7x), Monaco, Vatican City (what a dump!), Portugal (2x), Spain, Scotland, Wales, England (the country of my birth), Switzerland (2x), Germany, Austria, Canada. I have also been to Bermuda. I think this is a goodly number of countries I have visited, considering I'm only 34.

Curiosity got the better of me and I took a look at the Traveler's Century Club list.
According to that list I am "allowed" to count the San Blas Islands and Wake Island so those two bring my total number of countries visited to 28.
I live in the US and have been fortunate to visit all the lower 48 states and Hawaii.
I hope to be able to add Alaska and at least 30 other places to my list.

Using the Traveler's Century Club guidelines, I can add 12 more "countries" that I had previously excluded
