From Dublin to Shannon (drive or not?)
Hi,
I'm trying to decide if to drive or not. I understand you would see a lot more with a car. Is it possible to drive and see the coastal views without encountering the steep roads. I don't mind slow traffic and narrow roads; it's the steep roads and sheer drop offs I'm afraid of. With this in mind, would I be able to handle Slea Head Drive? I won't touch Ring of Kerry or Connor Pass!
After 3 nights in Dublin, I could stop at West Cork for one night, 2 nights in Dingle area, and the last night near Shannon airport, perhaps Limerick?
We would like to stay at B&Bs and love rolling hills and want to horseback ride at least once (on the beach preferably).
After describing the above, if I were to take public transport, would I be able to accomplish what I'd like to do/see?
Any thoughts or advice?

Since I have not used public transportation in Ireland (except for the DART and some buses in Galway) I will leave that to others.
We have driven in Ireland many times. If you want to see some coastal areas, drive in the direction that will keep you on the inside of the road. For instance, if you were interested in the Ring of Kerry, drive the ring counter-clockwise and you won't be on the cliff side of the road. (I didn't find the ROK too intimidating, speaking as a passenger.) Same goes for Dingle. The first time we drove Connor Pass it was very foggy so we were going very slow and didn't know how it dropped off.
As has been said here many times, you don't want the hassle of having a car in Dublin.

Based on your answer to response's on TA forum. You will be hiring a car so that you can stop a couple of times on the way. I am though assuming that this is purely getting over for a flight and not an excursion to see a few places/sights over a couple of day's.

Hi,
Thanks, Allison, for your advice. I definitely won't be driving in Dublin.
Tony, not sure what you mean. I am hiring a car (possibility) if I feel confident enough with the proposed route from Dublin to Shannon. If not, I could hopefully take a train from Dublin to ? enroute to Shannon (as I fly home from Shannon).
Appreciate any help/advice.
