I just made a reservation for my daughter at the Ramada. It does have a restaurant but I don't know how good it is. It does have a shuttle.

We stayed at the Gable End Guest House in Horley where Gatwick is located. No restraunt, but there was a great little pub down the street, within walking distance, that had great food. The owner of Gable End also offers free breakfast and free shuttle service to the airport. www.gable-end.com or ph#: 01293 783679 Joseph & Mary are very nice people.

Not what you're looking for but someone else on a lower budget may be - a B&B a short walk, yes walk from Gatwick arrival terminals. I was killing time at Gatwick recently and took a stroll on this foot/bike path i saw and about a half-mile later it emerged in a subdivision with 'Moms' B&B.

For future reference, Gatwick has 2 hotels that are connected to the terminals. I've stayed at the LaMeridien and it was great. 2 restaurants, one upscale and a great pub with pool tables and sports TVs. Nice standard size rooms and the best part is walking to the terminal in the morning through a short tunnel. I left the room an hour before my flight back to Dallas. Can't beat it.

I paid ~$100 with fees and taxes through Priceline.

I believe but I'm not sure, the other hotel is either Hilton or a Hyatt.

Sorry in the delay in reporting back. Gables End was very good. Mary and Joseph who own the B&B couldnt do any more for us than they did. The place is very clean and welcoming. Its like going home! She even bought vegeterain sausages for my breakfast as I mentioned whilst boking that I did not eat meat. They took us to Gatwick and picked us up at no extra charge. I wouldnt stay anywhere else in Gatwick. Very highly recommended!!!!

If we arrived at the Gable Inn by, about, 7:30pm, where could we go for dinner/supper within walking distance?

I did a search on Gatwick hotels before I asked a question, and this thread popped up! Perfect! I've emailed the hotel to see if they can accommodate us for one night, returning from Stratford-upon-Avon, dropping off the car the next day and flying back home to TX.

I hope they have room for us. Thanks, all.

To Cassandra: The pub about two blocks away that is mentioned in one of these messages is an excellent place to eat. Mary or Joseph will recommend it to you I'm sure.

I think the pub that everyone is referring to is the Ye Olde Six Bells. Stayed last month at a B&B (Rosemead) two doors down from Gable End. Easy walk a couple of blocks up the side street to Six Bells. We arrived at Gatwick after 8 p.m., Fiona from Rosemead picked us up in 5 minutes. We had dinner at Six Bells around 9 p.m. on a weeknight, no problem getting served at that time. Plenty of other choices within walking distance according to the packet of info at our B&B. Six Bells was quite good, not just pub grub.

Beginning to wish we had more than a turn-around there.

Slight disagreement in the house -- invite referees: Gable End or the Lawn?
