Another suggestion, The Eiffel tower is more impressive from a distance, like at the Chez Francis but for one of the best views go to Institut du Monde Arabe in the 5th at 1, rue des Fosses Saint-Bernard. www.imarabe.org
www.cnac-gp.fr for the Pompid,
and the tour d Montparnasse.

I really appreciate the fantastic response. As you see, you have helped others with the same concerns. In response to recent post, I did walk up to first level once, and it was a lot of fun. No problem, but I did look up thinking there was no way I could walk to the second. Thanks for the info about not being able to get off at second level if I purchase ticket to third. I suppose they make you change elevators and give you no choice? I bet if I feel faint they will let me return back down at second level won't they? I appreciate also the info on other great views in Paris. I would like to add the view from the Arch de Triumph. That is an enclosed (although narrow if I remember correctly) walk up and a great view at the top!! Another interesting vantage point is to get directly under the Eiffel tower and look straight up. This will give you a view that explains the reason for this post!!

AnthonyGA, clarify please? It sounds like if I buy a ticket to the second level I could go there first and visit the first on the way down. Thus, one ticket and one trip?

Also, anyone can buy a ticket to use the stairs, which implies that one will reach the 1er before the 2e.

Robespiere, this much I know: There are more than one ticket booth and several options. You can buy a ticket to walk to first level or a ticket to walk to second level (and you can stop at first). You can buy a ticket to ride to first level. You can buy a ticket to ride to second level (it does not stop to let you off in either direction at first level). YOu can buy a ticket to top which will stop at second level because you must change elevators. However, I did not know until this post that you could only visit 2nd on way down and that on way up it was just a change of elevators. I don't think you have option to stop from second down on this ticket. Hopefully, someone will clarify any grey area in my explanation.

I stand corrected, already. The ticket to walk up is for 1st and 2nd levels. Here is the official website to the Eiffel tower:

wtggirl. I am afraid of certain heights. I have no problem with flying, but driving across(not being a passenger, but driving) big long bridges like Chesapeake Bay bridge really gives me a problem. I go on roller coasters that are 300 feet tall & I have problems going over that first big hill but really enjoy it after that, but I can't go on any of the tall drop type rides. What this leads me to is I have been to Paris a few times & have not gotten further than the 2nd level of the Eiffel tower. Freaked myself out just looking at the elevator from 2nd to the 3rd level. Then 1 trip we brought out 10 year old son. He wanted to go to the top. So I did it so that he wouldn't miss out on the experience (which is the same reason I started riding coasters). During that trip, we ended going to the 3rd level twice, once during the day & once at night. It was easier for me to do the second time - at night, having already done it & being dark outside. Just stood towards the back of the elevator, & then away from the railing on the observation deck, until I worked up the nerve to go to the railing & look out & down. I was happy to get on the ground again, but could now work up the nerve to do it again. On 1 trip to London, I freaked myself out going up the last level of St Pauls, with the narrow steps & the holes in the steps. Had to turn around & go back down, somebody else did the same thing shortly after I did. But when my 10 yr old son was there he wanted to go to the top. It took me alot to muster, since I already turned around once before, but because the kid wanted to do it, I did it. White knuckled all the way up, but once on top I was fine.
