Got Tickets;Got No Plane
To those of you who communicated with me
regarding my forthcoming flight on Royal
Jordanian (JFK to AMS), I'd like you to
know there is no such flight.

Thanks to Fodorite, Anna C, I learned that
the flight no longer exists, even though
I have paper tickets for it.

Neither Travelocity nor Royal Jordanian
notifed me of its cancellation. Had I not
learned of it, I would have flown to JFK
on a AA commuter flight ($286) only to
be struck there.

Have you ever had a similar experience?

Cheers,

Gerry K

Sally and Gerry,
We had a similar experience a few weeks ago when Austrian Air and United cancelled our flight from Chicago to Vienna. No one notified us either. We found out when we were making seat reservations about 6 weeks prior to our departure, fortunately. We had to call the airline and get totally rerouted. The worst part of the whole ordeal was that NEITHER airline would confirm that we were even on our new flight. We were also dealing with bad weather that day. We went to the United desk, who could not pull up our reservations on our flight that was to leave that day and wouldn't beleive me that Austrian Air would give us a confirmation, I finally had the person at that desk call Austrian Air and was amused that even THEY could not confirm our reservations.
In those preceding weeks, they each told us repeatedly to call the other airline. Apparently, both carriers sold a portion of the flight. We just went with the flow, we always get those paper tickets, knowing we would get there somehow. It was a little disconcerting not having that confirmation. It usually works out, Gerry. Just be persistent and pleasant. Someone will get you there.
Cheers!
Gloria

I've had only one plane cancelled on me, but my travel agent called me with the info.

I'm curious if million-mile clients, or those that hold first class tickets, get the same shabby treatment from the airlines, or are they notified if the flight's cancelled?

Wow Gloria -- I wouldn't have been as cool as you were. But then United is the local "screw-up" at O'Hare. Sorry to hear their partner Austrian was playing Laurel & Hardy also. They were always reliable when they were in the Swissair partner set-up. Guess they must have caught the "untidy" bug

Yep, I've seen it, and it happened to one of those million mile guys. My best friend and I were leaving Paris, supposed to leave around 2:00 p.m., arrived at CDG to find that his flight had been cancelled, and he had been booked onto a flight which left at 9:00 a.m. in other words he had long since missed it. The airline knew how to reach him in Paris, they just didn't. And a whole PLANE FULL of people were in the same situation - virtually nobody had checked ahead of time to find out if their flight still was going...
